It has a lovely marine atmosphere, lights with eyes of bronze ox, fishing nets, oars, a clock made with a helm, lots of wood and bronze, sea ropes, finally. all according to the place. They have very good wines, pintxos tapas, small pots, rations and other specialties among which the foie stands out on the dish and the goat cake, type of puré prepared with the meat of this semi-grassed fish. octopus to Galician, chorizo to cider, Iberian palette, Iberian table, melted goat cheese, etc. from its wide selection of wines you can choose a drink or a bottle. the places that are most used, depending on the time, are the terrace and the bar as there are very few tables inside. is open every day from 12 o'clock. a place to recommend warmly.
The arantzale bar is located in the area of the old port of Algorta, a small town with lots of charm for so small streets and full of old fishing houses, and with small taverns like the arantzale where you can enjoy very rich and original pintxos without being anything touristic.
We decided to eat at the first restaurant we came to, despite the fact that the one next door and the one after that were both filling up whereas this one was still empty, on the grounds that people tend to ignore a first restaurant, hoping that something better will come along. I have no idea whether the two next door were better or not, but we were reasonably happy with ours not fine dining but ok for the price. We had the fish terrine or bean and chorizo soup to start with, followed by bacalao or paella. The paella was a bit of a disappointment but the other choices were fine. We all finished with the flan, which was delicious.
This is where Trip Advisor doesn't work. No way is this restaurant No 70 odd out of 81! I have just had the Menu at 22 Euros a great bowl of fresh mussels followed by hake and cheesecake washed down with a half carafe of wine. All excellent plus the entertainment in the paved street. A great meal and evening. Highly recommended.
We've stayed in Bilbao in early November and took the metro north in search of a fisherman's town. This taberna and the lovely streets it is located on was exactly what we were looking for a very authentic place! Jeru guided us through their vast wine selection and was extremely helpful and friendly throughout our stay. It was the time for us to catch the plane and I (of course) managed to forget my wallet behind! Jeru was kind enough to get in touch with me and send it through post! All in all, great wine, great food and the GREATEST service I highly recommend you pay them a visit if you're in the area!
