The hotel grounds are quite pleasant, peaceful, and relaxing, with big gardens, a lake, and even a trail through wooded areas on the back side of the lake. Set well back from the street in a quiet residential area, it's a nice getaway from the hustle bustle of the city. I didn't rent a car, and was able to walk and/or use public transit to get everywhere I needed (the Schæffergården is a 10-minute walk from Jægersborg Station on the S-tog A-line). The rooms are minimalist, which is fine. If you stay here in summer, be aware that the rooms don't have A/C (and so they can get rather warm and stuffy), but then again, almost no place in Denmark has A/C. The breakfasts are wonderful (and included at no extra charge)! There's quite a large spread of great food for a range of tastes, and they're fully satisfying. If I ever return to Denmark for another meeting/conference at DTU Lyngby, I'll stay again at Schæffergården! I recommend this hotel.
Five days into our stay at this hotel, and I don't want it to end. It's a peaceful little sanctuary, with a lot of green outdoor spaces and quiet surroundings. Our room is clean, the bed is super comfy with soft bed linens, and we have a lovely view of the kitchen gardens. Breakfast buffet is a little basic and limited (possibly reduced selection due to Covid-19? , but everything tastes great. The croissants are so buttery they're to die for. Staff is helpful and nice. We had a small issue with poor wi-fi connection at one point, but it got better after we reported it. Our room has a water boiler and some coffee and tea bags, as well as a TV with USB and HDMI (for those bringing a Chrome Cast like we did . Towels are of course provided, and our room has an iron and ironing board. Shower gel is provided, but not shampoo or conditioner, so bring your own.
I have stayed in this hotel twice and it’s a little gem tuck in Gentofte. The room is minimalist concept but clean and the overall hotel itself is well-kept. Breakfast spread is good and I highly recommend the dinner at the restaurant as the ambience setting is nice and cozy, and the food is delish! The hospitality of their wait staffs are highly commendable. Both the Spring and Autumn is phenomenal to enjoy the morning/evening walk at the beautiful park and strolling around the lake behind the hotel. I will definitely choose to stay in this hotel whenever I come back to Copenhagen : Thought the hotel is located at the suburb of Copenhagen but it’s very convenient to use the public transport to go downtown. There is a bus station just a 3 mins walk from the girl which will connect to the train station, and the train service will take you directly into the Copenhagen town. On the side note, as the hotel is not located at the most hip area of downtown, and food choices can be limiting at time. If one are into the mood of some authentic pizza, pasta or some good Italien cuisine and wine, there’s a lil nice Italian restaurant located directly beside the hotel and the owner is a very friendly and charismatic man.
Prepare yourself not to sleep I really wanted to give this hotel a 4 star plus review.. And I was going to do so.. Beautiful, exterior, good parking facilities and friendly staff. Rom 235 was small but cosy, it had some flaws but I did not mind since everything else seemed to be ok.. Upon arrival I noticed that there was a wedding party the same evening. We did not think much of it since we ourselves were going to be out for dinner and drinks. When we came back at 0130, the wedding party was full boar. But hey, it is a wedding and guests are happy. And so were we, for the time being.... Our room 235 was actually facing away from the party, but some inexplicable reason both the doors and windows on both sides of the banquet room, in which the wedding took place, were open.. and therefore the bass would penetrate through the whole building. 0259 we were sure that the music would stop, but it did not.. now it became a game of who could guess what song was playing. a game that was uncannily easy to win as one could almost hear every word of the lyrics. 04:10 the music stopped.... 5hrs and 50 minutes before the breakfast ends.. The four star rating was starting to deteriorate quick smart.. Now from being a positive experience it became a hunt for faults.. The nice rooms now just looked like a chappy attempt to appear like something it was not. The carpet had so many severe stains that could wonder what they just would not rip it out and start allover. No electrical output next to the bed, nor next tot he desk in the room. No bed side tables to place your phone/ jewellery on The fixture for the non existing drapes of yester year had not been removed, same for fixture of shower curtain that no longer existed. There was severe lack for attention to detail in the bathroom, which in fairness could easily have been quite ok, but now it was just worn. The door lock did not work, so when you leave the room, you would have to unlock the door from the outside in order for it to shut. Now all this could have been averted.. The hotel wrote us twice before our arrival.. Twice to remind us about the very nice restaurant on site, but not once did the hotel inform us of the impending disco/wedding... Had they done so, we would have been able to choose a different hotel, or just blame ourselves, but the choice would have been ours. On the positive note, breakfast was pleasant, but it bewilders me that it closes it at 10 am on a Sunday, what is the rush? Especially taking into consideration that half the hotels guests have just fallen a sleep.. On a final note... The hotel as a great history, why not flaunt it everywhere? Pictures stories ect ect... everything to gain nothing to loose..
The place is quiet. The bathrooms are not shiny new, but the showers are fine. The garden around the building is nice and quiet. Breakfast is very good and not wasteful as other hotels with so many small buttet and jam plastic containers. I had a feeling that the sheets were not freshly washed and the pillows smelt like their sheets were not changed. I was too tired and it was late night to raise it with the reception.
