Caffee Gelato - Garching

Average ice cream, but was really crowded when we went. Since we only ordered ice cream scoops we weren't entitled to sit down. They can't help it I suppose but it would have been nice to feel welcomed and allowed to sit. (edited my review because apparently this is a fairly common complaint and also happens when the cafe isn't crowded, that's a little bit rude)

I bought a scoop of ice cream from here and went to sit down at one of their tables outside to eat it. The employee, who was a middle-aged woman with shoulder length, dark brown/red hair, came up to me and very rudely said that my ice cream is to-go only , so I was not allowed to sit at one of their tables. They were not busy at the time. Only three other of their tables were occupied at the time, and there wasn 't a line or anything of people waiting to get ice cream or looking for a table. There were no signs saying that ice cream ordered in a cone is to-go only , nor did I ever say that I wanted it to-go. There was a group of three women sitting at one of the tables who had nothing but a bottle of water, and the other two tables occupied at the time were of couples eating ice cream. I saw no reason why I wasn 't allowed to sit at one of their tables and eat the ice cream that I had just purchased from them. I was alone, not being loud, nor did I have anything else to eat or drink other than the ice cream I bought from them. I was minding my own business. I can only conclude that this woman had some personal problem with me, either because I am not from Germany, or because I am Asian, or both. She was very rude to say the least, and I felt extremely singled out and discriminated against.

I bought an ice cream in the morning, almost all tables were free. But when I tried to seat I was said that my ice cream is to-go and I have to leave the cafe. I will never buy anything there. And do not recommend it.

Great ice cream place! You are not allowed to sit outside on the tables with a to-go ice cream because of German VAT issues.

In my opinion, the best ice cream in Garching. I especially like their dark chocolate, though all flavors I've tried have been good. The prices are just about average for the area (1,20€ at the time of writing), though they may increase if the trend in Munich reaches the suburbs. Can't say too much about their sundaes, but they certainly look fantastic.
