Kerala Cafe - Gaithersburg

One delightful surprise was the Sambar—a light yogurt soup combined with curry leaves and green Indian chilies. The Kappa Kazhangu was absolutely perfect! The onion pakoras were exceptionally crunchy, fresh, and not greasy at all (unlike those frozen ones often found in typical Indian restaurants). We arrived at the weekend buffet a bit late, but the owner kindly allowed us to taste the dishes on offer. The Gulab Jamuns looked homemade, and we later confirmed they indeed were! I was blown away by the quality of the food; the spices in the raw mango were reminiscent of those my mother used to make. Each dish was flavorful and tasted as though it had been prepared with fresh ingredients right from home. Perhaps the best aspect of the café is the people who run it; their dedication to quality truly shines through. They embody the warmth and sincerity that make Malayalis some of the friendliest people in the subcontinent. Kerala Cafe lives up to the high standards of its home state. Having dined at several South Indian restaurants in NYC, Upstate New York, California, and DC, I can confidently say Kerala Cafe offers the best food among them, along with outstanding service. I plan to return until I’ve tried everything on their menu, especially since I’ve heard they change it daily—an exciting prospect given the vast range of Malayali and South Indian cuisine. If you're in Rockville, don’t miss this place! Malayali food can be challenging to perfect, but Kerala Cafe does it exceptionally well.
