Mildred's Big City Food - Gainesville

My wife and I have eaten Dinner at Mildred’s Big City Food about 6 or 7 times. Every time we eat there we are more impressed. The food is always great, if not impeccable. Everything is fresh and perfectly paired. Definitely one of the best gourmet level restaurants in Gainesville. While the establishment facilities are not elegant the food certainly is. The service staff is always friendly and extremely attentive. I would recommend Mildred’s to anyone who truly enjoys gourmet class food. Mildred always delivers.

Excellent food, fantastic service, and wonderful seasonal selection, everything was wonderful until the bill came, which included a 12-13% “service charge” which is intended to be separate from the tip. I have no problem with such a charge if I am informed as a customer that I am going to pay it when I arrive. Adding such a charge on without informing the customer feels extremely dishonest and arguably fraudulent as I did not agree to pay this charge, and it is not standard to expect anything other than tax and tip be added to your bill after prices listed on the menu. Really just left a bad taste in my mouth after a wonderful meal. If they fix this I would absolutely give 5 stars and even more if I could.

Mildred’s is old-fashioned is all the right ways. For $35 you get your choice of steak, salmon, duck, etc. with an appetizer and (best of all) a slice of one of their amazing cakes. The cakes here are to-die-for. The food is delicious as well! The atmosphere is business casual. Reservations are recommended.

One of the BEST restaurants in Gainesville! local ingredients and amazing quality BUT during my employment there one of the night time servers, Troy, was helping me fold silverware and said something along the lines of “you’re latina, you know how to fold burritos right?” I was in complete utter shock but out of discomfort I just laughed and proceeded with my shift. Shortly after, I ended my employment because of poor management.

Spontaneously stopped to meet a friend. everything was excellent! my friend had the white pizza with mushrooms and ricotta, my daughter and me.
