The inaugural OC Cajun Food Music Celebration took place in Fountain Valley's Mile Square Park. As cool as it would have been to have the festival all over the park, it was only within Field D grounds. Cost breakdown is as follows: General admission ticket: $50 Veteran/Armed Services ticket: $30 Non-drinking ticket: $25 Ages 5 and under: Free Once you get a ticket, you are welcome to sample as much food as you can while supplies last. However, only the general admission and veteran/armed services tickets included beverage sampling. The event ran from 3 PM to 7 PM. Festival grounds were enclosed by a chain-link fence. Canopies were laid out all over the perimeter of the festival, and a dance floor could be found at the far corner underneath the largest canopy tent. In the middle was the games area. There really weren't that many games available: two sets of cornhole, a giant Connect 4, a giant Jenga puzzle, building blocks, and a magnet game where you place cutouts inside the holes of a board, and you use a magnet to lift the cutouts out of the holes. The kids had a lot of fun with these games, especially cornhole! There really weren't that many vendors at the festival either. Once I came in, I was actually afraid that there wasn't going to be that much food. Actually, there was a good amount of food for everyone, and I stuffed myself pretty good with the jambalaya, potato salad, salad, and breadsticks that were being served at the near corner of the event. They were pretty good! A couple booths down was Ritter's Steam Kettle Cooking from Santa Ana. They served New England Clam Chowder and their famous Pan Roast, which is a tomato cream based creole dish with Cajun Trinity served with rice. They were delish! Next to the dance floor was the We're Blessed Catering business, which served a good variety of food. Unfortunately, their food went out like hot cakes. I was only able to get my hands on bread pudding and pasta (which were pretty good! . On the opposite side were pie and drinks. A peaches and berries pie was served alongside apple pie, but the peaches and berries pie was the limiting reagent, running out about halfway through the event. There was plenty enough apple pie to feed all the hungry attendees! Both of the pies were definitely something special! There were plenty of drinks for everyone from bottled water to Suja juice to Rose wine. The Suja juice was alright, but wasn't very flavorful for my taste buds. There was also a booth giving out organic coconut water. Ooh! Sounds fancy! However, after a couple sips, I concluded that I despise organic coconut water (I still powered through the rest of the bottle though . Next to the organic coconut water was OC Weekly giving away prizes for spinning their wheel. I got a drink koozie, but they also had chapstick and the latest fad of fidget spinners! There were no porta-potties within festival grounds, but they did have a sink that was connected to a large white tank behind the sink. All proceeds from the festival benefit Community Action Partnership of Orange County and their OC Food Bank. The Food Bank had a booth closest to the entrance of the festival. They were giving away forks, but when you detach the prongs from the handle, it turns into a pen! Cool! Now I can eat steak and write stuff on paper using the same utensil! Overall, the OC Cajun Food Music Celebration is pretty low-key. You could walk the perimeter of the festival grounds in 2-3 minutes. I'd say about a few hundred showed up, and there was a handful of volunteers (like myself who helped out at various parts of the festival. I wouldn't be opposed to coming back to volunteer next year, but now I know not to expect anything fancy schmancy.

3.5 stars Born on the Bayou, living on pension in the OC The inaugural OC Cajun Food Music Celebration popped off at Field D of the Fountain Valley Recreation Center Sports Complex at Mile Square Park. I was fortuitous enough to score some tickets, so I was game for participating in the first time ever event. The Celebration benefitted Community Action Partnership of Orange County the OC Food Bank. 2 worthy charitable organizations whom are always in need of sought after funding. There were games a-plenty to keep the young old alike amused, with cornhole, Jenga and the like. Surprisingly, there were only a scant amount of vendors participating- Coco Community refreshed attendees with their organic coconut water. I still call it coconut juice, as that was what it was called before it became the health food darling it deservedly became. Stella Rosa had a bevy of bottle wine to sample. Mighty Swell freely poured their mango grapefruit sparkling cocktails. I tried the mango, and it had the perfect amount of sweetness. Angel City Brewery Cismontane Brewing Co. each had a pair of beers to guzzle. The Suja organic drinks were my favorite libations, as they served 2 drinking vinegars 3 probiotic beverages. I took quite a few home ;p Ritter 's Steam Kettle Cooking Santa Ana had a rough go most of the day, as their Sterno cans weren 't heating their pan roast New England clam chowder. I did manage to avail myself of their vaunted pan roast on a couple of occasions, but the chowder still wasn 't ready when I left halfway through the festivities. We 're Blessed Catering took the food crown, with their chicken pasta, gumbo whiskey-glazed bread pudding. Other food included jambalaya, salad, apple pie peach blueberry pie. I didn 't bring my dancing shoes, but I lit the floor up dancing the afternoon away. Karen instructed the brave enough on how to do such dances as the Butt Thang .
