I've lived in Chicago, Montreal, the Northwest Territories, militia Michigan, and Fort Vermilion, which holds a special place in the hearts of two old Red Sea Pedestrians. Doctor Claire and I love old diners, and now we're in the beautiful little Hockeytown of Southern Quebec. Is anyone interested in running a truck stop? I can't recall a winter like the one we had back in 1988 when the Flame was so popular. I really hope the Ag Farm gets restored and that the Monsanto folks stay south of Cardston. Did you know Montana Slim was from Banff? He taught Mother Maybelle how to sing and Hank Williams how to yodel. If you haven't listened to Wilf Carter's Calgary Rodeo album on YouTube, you’re missing out—it's amazing. Doctor Claire was born in Nashville at Vanderbilt Hospital, but Nashville has become more like Hollywood and Vegas than real country. We stayed at the Buchanan Log House, where we encountered a friendly ghost named Mathilda. Doctor Claire is still studying philosophy, and I may be nearly blind, but I'm incredibly happy here high in the Appalachians, right next to Quebec’s Appalachian trail, where it's been raining for what feels like forever!
This was my first visit since it was known as The Trapper Shack several years ago. The food is decent, and it seems quite similar to what was offered back then. It features standard greasy spoon fare like burgers, sandwiches, fries, and pizza. The restaurant itself looked clean and well-organized, maintaining its original rustic charm. However, the service could use some improvement. The owner, who appeared to be the only staff member, didn’t go above and beyond in customer service and might benefit from a few hospitality tips. Nonetheless, it’s great to see this place thriving again in Fort Vermilion, and it’s definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

I ordered the special of the day: turkey topped with gravy, served with potatoes and homemade cranberry sauce, all on a hearty waffle. It was absolutely delicious! As a tourist from a big Canadian city, I can say that this was one of the best meals I've ever had in a small-town restaurant.
