I myself work in the hospitality business in the same area so I try to be as forgiving as possible. I also understand this is a diner. However, had to always hunt for her when we needed something. When she finally came she forgot items requested. This happened three times during our meal. At the end of our meal she took way to long to bring me change as i paid cash and when she finally did she tried to force me into giving her the 20% by not breaking the $5 change into singles. Usually this would not be that much of an issue because i gladly tip 20 points or better but the service was so awful that the 15 points i gave her seemed high. I did that only because I understand the business but I wish she would take a little more pride in what servers actually do. They can make or break the meal. In this case Break!
I've had breakfast here many times my food I always served quickly, hot and eggs cooked just right. I have to agree that the rest room is usually filthy. I've always paid cash and wasn't aware they didn't accept credit cards! I've seen the Mayor, the Chief of Police, and the Public Defender eating here at different times. It's kind of an IN place to be. I have to admit I eat here mostly because it's about the cheapest place on Las Olas to have breakfast. I will continue to come here when I'm in town but just avoid the rest rooms.
Although the food and service were adequate, the place is filthy. If you do go, avoid the restrooms at all cost.
New to neighborhood and hesitant to eat at this icon, fearing just another restaurant with too much reputation. Had a pleasant, perfectly timed dinner, on a slow Tuesday night. Enjoyed local characters displaying their uniqueness, beautifully full flavored lentil soup, typical but huge dinner salad and country fried steak/hamburger entrées. Food not over the top, but entrées big and hearty, just what you would expect from a diner icon.
After enjoying our dinner I hand my bankcard (VISA over to the server. She looks at it and says, Sorry, we don 't accept it, but we do have an ATM. She then says, I 've had complaints about this before and asked the owner about it. Between you and me...the owner owns the machine! . Then, already upset I go up to the ATM machine where I pay $2.00 to get cash (and my bank charges ANOTHER $2.00 , to pay a lousy $24.00 check. I go to to pay at the register and tell the gentleman that it 's unfair they don 't accept credit cards. He then gave me a little attitude about it and then said, Yeah, I 've been yelling at the owner about it for years! . I then proceeded to tell him to tell the owner that they just lost a regular customer. He said, Will Do! Little did the guy know that I knew (and I 'm pretty darn sure , that he was either the owner or one of the owners. The whole point is...don 't rip customers off! In this day and age who doesn 't accept credit cards? Talk about a trap to get you to use their ATM. Appreciate your customers and treat them well or they won 't come back ever again. Case in point We went there 3 4 times (with cash and never knew about the issue . This was our last time. Food was decent, nothing special, but this took it over the edge for me.
