I recently found a new shabu restaurant that also offers grilling options. The place is spotless and visually appealing. Today, I chose to sit at the bar and ordered the Miyazaki A5. Interestingly, the meat came from a cow named Mitsufuku. The marbling was absolutely stunning. They serve the broth in a cast iron pot, so be careful—it may not feel super hot, but it definitely is! I only needed to dip the meat for about two to three seconds, and when I took a bite, it practically melted in my mouth. Without a doubt, this is the best quality shabu meat I've enjoyed in a long time!
The food at Halves is fantastic, featuring high-quality meats and fresh vegetables. However, the atmosphere is lacking for the price you pay. I'd love to return, but the date night menu prices don’t match the ambiance of a nice restaurant. I wish they would enhance the comfort, perhaps with better seating. We ended up spending $120 (including tip) for two people, which included the Halves menu and one drink each. Service was for dine-in.
I visit this restaurant as a special treat with my husband or cousins. The A5 wagyu is a definite must-try. They have a great selection of dishes while still maintaining high quality. The staff is consistently accommodating and friendly. It can get pretty crowded, so be prepared to wait in line. The inside can also get a bit warm. Overall, the food is absolutely delicious, and we always leave feeling full and satisfied!
If you're in search of a fantastic shabu and grill experience, this place is perfect for you. The Mongolian spicy soup comes highly recommended. Halves offers high-quality cuts of meat that are both delicious and tender, whether you choose to boil or grill them. Here’s a tip for enjoying shabu shabu: after swirling the thinly sliced meat in the boiling broth, dip it into either the GOMA or YUZU dipping sauce. This not only cools the meat down but also enhances its flavor. It's a great spot for small groups of 2 or 4, but I wouldn't recommend it for larger parties unless you're okay with sitting at the bar.
