I have eaten here several times and can tell you this is my new Chinese place! I went a little further to another buffet Lindbergh, but it closed and my brother took me here one day and I LOVED IT! I usually get the lemon pork/chicken and crab-rangoon or fried fish and shrimp (also with crab-rangoon). The aromas really pop with everything they do and their trays in the buffet are often so nothing will dry out or stale. I would give Chinese gourmet 10 out of 10!
Big Szechuan Pigmeat!. I tried the gourmet for the first time tonight and really enjoyed it. (Directive: The best way to get there is to take Lindbergh to New Halls Ferry and turn right-2. building to the right; You cannot turn left N.H.F., unless you go to the shopping center and come from behind). It is a beautiful, simple, clean place. I avoid the buffet and ordered the menu. The Szechuan Pork was traditional Chinese BBQ pork in small pieces, stir fried with celery, carrots, mushrooms, green onion, white onion, carrot, water chestnuts - all in a slightly sweet, hot sauce. It was just alive in the mouth! I also tried the spicy egg roll-- Finally warms up on the mouth if you like an intense heat. My half order of pigs with the egg roll and hot tea was less than $9 and it was a lot of food. Most dishes are under $8 for a whole order; some of the house specialties are about $13. I'd definitely go back.
There food is great! It's the best in St.louis! It saddens me that they closed after 33 year's in business! Please bring back the Chinese Gourmet!
It was either spend $20 for Chinese delievery, or $6 for some Chinese food that was just ok so I decided to go all in for the $8.95 buffet.
