Very small, friendly pub. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful and nothing was too much trouble for them. Our trip there was all the nicer because it was Saturday night and we couldn’t get dinner anywhere else in the area until much later than...we wanted. Our hostess at Tower recommended it when I turned to her in desperation, telling me that the food there was excellent and they are always really good about making space for people. I have no idea why this pub was not totally booked out because the food is really good. Our corner had three tables on it and the other couples were absolutely raving about the food. Nice big portions too. Steak pie particularly good, plus the sticky toffee pudding. The views as you park are incredible, by the way. We only saw it at night, with all the lights twinkling, but it must be spectacular by day as well.
We made a late booking and arrived between two celebrating birthday parties. Very friendly staff and warm cozy atmosphere. Food was served hot and tasty and clearly home cooked. All was good apart from the pork we ordered which was possibly ‘end of the...day’ pieces? Will visit again but try and avoid birthday parties and end of food times.
Turned up quite late looking to eat. Although near closing they rustled up a lovely meal for us. Very good too.
Here's the thing. The Sunday roast is just sublime. Goodness only knows how they can make roast potatoes that good, let alone everything else. Being a small place it soon fills up. So if I say it is amazing and you just have to visit...I wouldn't be lying. However, if it means that they get so busy I cant get in for Sunday lunch then I will be shooting myself in the foot, so to speak. So, go ahead and give it a swerve, and I can keep this little gem to ourselves! Seriously, it's well worth it for the food alone, oh, and they even have a free pool table.
