We didn't want pizza, so we thought we'd just have coffee and a quick bite, after checking in and before heading on our afternoon safari. We may have been lucky in that, by the time we checked in and freshened up, a few train loads of tourists had already departed, so it wasn't busy. We had the smoked salmon and the goat sausage. Both were lovely. While the sausage was a bit fatty for me, he loved it. They had run out of apple cake, but we ordered the chocolate cake with our coffees. It was a nice light home made style cake with just the right amount of cream. Also, the coffees were on point. The staff were lovely. Given that we had come in at the tail end of lunch, they were relaxed and so much fun to chat with.
In the little red house on a hill, close to the fjord and Flam railway station you will find this little gem of a restaurant. The menu is traditional Norway fair; serving up veal patties, goat sausage, vegetable soup, smoked salmon and potato and egg salads. This is a fantastic choice for a light lunch and glass of wine/beer after a day spent exploring Flam. And for the overindulgent the homemade desert of the day is a wonderful option. Prices are right in line, relative to the quality of the food, and the quaint scenic cafe setting. What a wonderful spot to take in a bit of traditional Flam.
After traveling the world with my beautiful girlfriend, I'm quite confident to say that we have finally found the worst Cafe on the planet located on the most overpriced tourist trap we've landed on yet. Starting with horrible service, slow, no vegetarian options, worst waiter in the world, small positions, shot sized glassed of water, confusion in the kitchen and register, closed sign when open, and could keep going... 40 usd for soup, a beer, and an appetizer meal. I you come here have deep pockets and the patience of a god. Im not one to leave an unnecessary review. Internet costs money, I have low battery on my cell phone. And this is definitely worth posting for my fellow travelers.
Totally wanted to like this place. Quaint place in a great natural setting with what seemed like an interesting menu. We arrived early afternoon looking for a light lunch/snack to hold us til dinner time. First off, we had to wait at least ten minutes for wait staff to clear previous guests dirty dishes. We asked three times for wait staff to please wipe the table of crumbs and spilled who knows what. They all said sure but it never happened. We tried to order four different items from the menu; all Of which they were out of. Then hubs ordered a beer on tap and they came back said they didn't have. Really disappointing experience but really who cares? The next wave of tourists will take our disappointed place. Nope ... can't recommend.
It's a super cool little restaurant with great food in an authentic atmosphere. I had the goat sausage and I loved it! The waiters and staff was friendly. We were seated at a small table with view towards the harbour. The table was a bit small but I didn't mind.
