Bread that came prior to the start of the meal was excellent. Flavors were on point. For dessert ordered bananas foster. No AC meant the temps were a bit warm. Overall ambiance was nice- restaurant was full but noise level remained acceptable. Servers were attentive. I only ran out of water towards end of our meal. Would definitely return.
We started Our meal with an appetizer of fried shrimp and chicken dumplings. My husband thought the dumplings were a little crispier than what he likes. I haven't met a dumpling I didn't like and if given a choice I usually get them steamed. But we didn't have any left over so that tells you they were just fine. This is the second time we have eaten at this restaurant but the first time to review. My husband ordered the Bang Bang chicken for the 2nd time because he recalled the first time was so delicious. The second time around did not disappoint. I had the pork crepe with Asian peanut slaw. The crepe had slices of pork with gruyere cheese melted. It was tasty. The Asian cabbage slaw was ok but I felt that either a warm chunky cinnamon apple sauce or braised cabbage and onions (maybe mushrooms) would have complimented the pork better. Halfway thru dinner my husband said if I saved room we could split a dessert. So, I immediately put my fork down and asked to package the other half of my meal. We decided to split a bananas foster crepe for dessert and we were not disappointed. Rich chocolate sauce and bananas topped with original bananas foster sauce which was buttery with a warm Carmel and Other flavors. This restaurant has a bar but we usually don't drink. I was surprised they didn't have lemonade or iced Tea. I settled For a cane sugar Cola while my husband enjoyed coffee. Service was exceptional and faster than expected. We would. It hesitate to eat at this fine restaurant again while visiting Fish Creek/Door County, WI. We
Mr. Helsinki's is a solid dinner option in door co. They have a great wine selection and their bang bang chicken is a crowd favorite (and great! . The manager (possibly owner greeted us this past visit and was attentive making grounds for the guests. The service otherwise has been decent but sometimes can be a miss. I do wish they had some more offerings, like a cheese board that pairs with the wine. I know a wine flight might not be possible logistically if they are busy but would also be a nice option, at least as a special one day a week. Some of the dinner options are a little mediocre (the sides, hamburger buns, etc. , but the options they are known for are excellent (bang bang chicken, duck lettuce wraps, etc. .
Goodbye, Mr. Helsinki! We dined on your last evening during fall festival and had an exceptional meal as usual. We have enjoyed your delicious creations for many years and you will be missed! Best of luck on your new venture.
We have not been here in a few years but it always has great food. It is a great place for a date. Less of a good place for kids but they never turned us away. Fantastic food for all the foodies too.
