First off, ignore all of the reviews before the remodel of the Fall of 2023 when it was still Plainfield Lanes. I 'm not sure the rating would be as high if the reviews were solely for Twisted Pin, and from people that bowl more than once or twice a year. The Good: When it was Plainfield Lanes, this place was clean, maintained well, has had great staff, generally family friendly, and above average concession stand food which continues to be the case with Twisted Pin. The renovation is a nice improvement versus some of the more dated bowling facilities in the area. The VIP area is good for group events since it 's isolated from the other lanes, but the tables make the seating area cluttered and difficult to navigate as compared to the general bowling area. The Bad: The bowling here has taken a step backward and is not at all for avid bowlers, or those interested in becoming such. It 's mostly a party like environment with full time cosmic bowling. The lanes are always dark, unless you can go on a weekday evening when there might be an open lane during seasonal league play. Additionally, the pins are now attached to strings which makes bowling here comparable to a carnival game. The strings frequently tangle which can really eat into your playing time if the machine can 't untangle them quickly. In such a situation, you 'll have to wait for someone named Caleb to walk slower than molasses and take the furthest route to fix the problem on your lane. Often, a pin(s) you didn 't knock over will end up missing for your second shot, or a pin(s) that you knocked over will be stood back up. Pins often slide across the pin deck instead of falling over, and on other occasions fall over for no reason, which I assume is due to them being attached to strings. Since you can no longer pay per game, it remains by far the most expensive privately owned place to bowl in the area and typically more expensive than the big chains like Pinstripes and Bowlero. For open bowling, it 's as high as $50 on the weekend, and $30 during the week per hour in the general area. This comes to a minimum of $10 and $6 per game respectively because you 'll never get more than 5 full games in an hour with the new string pin setters. Additionally, you can use one of the new VIP lanes for an additional $15+ per hour or reserve a lane online for an additional $25+ per hour, which tack on another $3-5+ per game. On weekend evenings, it is like an adult night club and not a place to take children. This is when you 'll often hear very loud raunchy music with women performing like strippers on the blinding jumbo screens accompanied by the scent of marijuana. Drinks from the bar are nothing special at $15+ a piece, which is about double what you 'd pay for a drink anywhere in the area, and what you might expect to pay at a high-end restaurant in the Chicago area. Additionally, if you want a beer, you 're mostly limited to a $10+ craft beer as the remaining beer selection is only few domestic and imported varieties. I wish I had more positive things to say about the change from Plainfield Lanes to Twisted Pin, but unfortunately, I don 't. You 're basically paying ridiculously more for an updated atmosphere that doesn 't translate into a ridiculously better experience.
Came here to bowl on a date pins are all connected by strings you don’t get real pin action. But the biggest problem was I ordered 2 drinks whisky and coke I cash out after 2nd one it comes to like 21.70 I give 2 dollar tip takes it out of my account instantly. 2 days later I go out to eat check my account noticed they took another 23.70 out. So I call twisted pins tell them they tell me yeah go tab is like it gas it pulls out more to make sure it can cover. I said you might want to put a sign up saying something like that I said most ppl these days don’t have the extra money for stuff like that. I could only imagine if I’d spent 50-100 and they took double. To me to know it and not tell people is beyond crazy. I would pay in cash for drinks but I honestly will never be back here. So many better bowling alleys, park side in aurora or even funway if you want arcade, skating all the extras. Don’t want someone else to make same mistake went Thursday still haven’t got money back hoping Monday is the day highly don’t recommend.
Love all the upgrades. Friendly staff. Excellent food. Had a great time.
We love the Twisted Pin! It's our go-to spot for family fun. The staff is friendly, the lanes are well-maintained, and the food and drinks are great. They also have fun events and specials. Highly recommend for a fantastic bowling experience with loved ones! They event have VIP sections, which are perfect for children.
