The Ruined Garden - Fes

This restaurant was a pleasant spot, worth a visit for its peaceful garden area. I enjoyed my lunch, particularly the refreshing cucumber tomato salad. I also tried the soup (harira), but I suspect it contained butter (not certain, but I tried to avoid it). The service was friendly. Overall, it was nothing extraordinary, but the cold salad was a nice treat on a warm day. I would give it a rating of 3.5 stars.

The restaurant offers a selection of classic Moroccan dishes as well as some vegan options. I wish the menu had clearer labeling for vegetarian and vegan choices, but the staff were friendly and assisted me when I mentioned I was vegan. I tried the Harira soup and vegetable tagine one day, and returned the next day for the amazing white bean stew. The highlights were the delicious warm bread with spices and fresh orange juice. The surroundings were also beautiful, with lots of fruit trees and many friendly cats around.

The food is okay, 4 times more expensive than other restaurants, but the environment is in a very nice location. Traditional soups are vegan and of course the classic tajin is veganisable, not worth the price, but the best place to cool out. Design over food.
