Antony - Eleveur de Fromages - Ferrette

This is an affineur that supplies Michelin-star restaurants around the world with their refined cheeses. Enjoyed the savoir-vivre, the delicious cheeses, which come with amazing potatoes and salted butter. The wine pairings were perfect. They do the tastings in French and German, not sure about...English. Such a treat.

I was looking forward to the experience after hearing so much about it. I would give it a high mark for its uniqueness as a gourmet experience. However, at per person, I think it is way overpriced.

We drove an hour south of our hotel in Rouffach based on Conde Nast's recommendation of Antony's as the premier fromagerie in the region. It did not disappoint. We visited in November on a weekday and had the pleasure of being the only customers in...the store. We did the course cheese tasting, and although we didn't like every one of the cheeses, each of them were unique and the tasting itself was a pleasure in an adorable semi-basement level wine tasting room. The tasting included great bread, and we ordered wine off too so it really became a decent sized lunch. If you don't have time for a tasting (but you SHOULD make time), the cheese counter is large and full of various cheeses. We are Americans and one of the reasons we visited France is to have great cheese. We got it here. A word on navigation it really is off the beaten path. I'm not sure how your GPS will direct you, but ours took us to the home of a lovely retired couple who were somehow living on the same street at another number They kindly directed us down the road to the correct location. This is the ONLY place in France our GPS couldn't identify correctly. It's worth the effort you'll make to get there though.

There is no place quite like Antony's. The location is quite a bit off the beaten path, the house' old and very charming, the small dining room as intimate as they come, and the selection of exquisite cheeses astounding. But there is something more here....Antony's is an exemplar of one man's aspiration and intent to offer the very best of French cheeses simply, honestly, and respectfully. Antony offers his cheeses only when they are mature and perfectly ready to enjoy. The evening celebration of cheeses' is an extravaganza! The daytime tasting is equally excellent, and a bit easier for the novice, both in terms of intensity and volume. The wines are well chosen, with the possibility of smaller bottles as well as full. I can never leave without purchasing a few of the cheeses I met' that day or an old love or two. The shop carries wines, jams and a variety of local items and some of the finest salted butter I have ever had.. Go if you can, go as often as you can...and let us all hope that Antony's continues to offer us that quietly remarkable and delicious experience for generations to come.

Great cheese tasting. Small room seating only ca people. Tried many kinds of cheese and the host told the story behind each of them. Go for the accompanying premium wine package. It is worth it.
