Tang Shian - Exeter

Execellent authentic Chinese food. We ordered beef with cashew, chicken fried rice, beef noodles, chicken with black bean sauce, prawn dish, and other dishes. It’s very tasty and beats London Chinese resturents. We only waited 30 mins which is normal as food cooked fresh. Please discard the negative reviews. Portions are big so maybe the can reduce the portions by 10% and reflect this on prices. We are going back next week for sure.

This Chinese restaurant was one of the worst I've ever experienced. The food was frozen and the waitress even admitted it. After paying for drinks, I couldn't bear to stay any longer and walked out. I highly recommend avoiding this place.

I popped in here on a visit to Exeter, the food was good, as was the service. I would recommend going here, very good value.

We had visited this Chinese restaurant many years ago when it was under different ownership. The restaurant is clean and conveniently located at the lower end of South Street with parking available on the road or behind the street in a pay and display area. The menu is quite limited and the prices are oddly high. The special fried rice costs over £10. The menu claims to offer dishes influenced by Szechuan, Cantonese, and Shandong cuisines, but we did not taste any of those flavors. The only vegetables used were onion, chili, and cabbage. The chicken in black bean sauce was inedible and Pak Choi was not available. Chinese beers were not on the menu and we were offered cans of Stella instead. Our waitress was pleasant, but with a bill of £40 for two people, we left feeling hungry and thoroughly disappointed.

I visited Tang Shian for the first time last night after receiving a strong recommendation from friends. I was very impressed! The restaurant was clean and spacious, and we were seated immediately. The menu had a good variety of mains, sides, and appetizers, with indications of how spicy each dish was. We ordered Cumin Beef, Tofu with Meat, and Double Cooked Pork Belly, along with sides of Steamed Rice and Egg Fried Rice. Our order was taken quickly, and the food arrived promptly. The portion sizes were generous, and all the dishes were delicious and hot. The flavors and spices were outstanding, although they might be too spicy for some. Our waitress was very polite and attentive, checking on us regularly. The prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food. Despite some previous issues with ingredient shortages, I would still highly recommend Tang Shian for a sit-down dining experience. The authentic Chinese cuisine may not be suitable for very young children or those looking for traditional Western takeout options. I look forward to trying their takeout service and hope more people give them a try.
