Our spa attire had us feeling pretty under dressed for indoor seating at this location. I'm sure we would have been fine for lunch but it just seemed more relaxed and comfortable outside. We arrived at shift change and we were asked to wait about 10 minutes for the new server starting their shift. This mention was greatly appreciated in advance so we didn't perceive the lag in introductions as slow service. 5 stars to the host that was on point!! The three of us shared the calamari and didn't leave a crumb. We each ordered a cup of lobster bisque and we all decided we would return simply for these two courses. Our entrees were also incredible. I ordered the halibut special, my daughter ordered a burger and my mom ordered the steak salad. We all were completely content and carried enough leftovers home for another enjoyable meal. I would recommend Hazelwood Tonka Bay for a nice meal of any kind business, girls day, date night or any celebration. Definitely on the spendier side, even at lunch, but you will not be disappointed.
For many years they had the best home made meatloaf but it was completely different on our last visit. The Chester 's Turkey Avocado Melt was very good while the Margherita Pizza was somewhat tasteless and could have had more basil. Service was great. Very busy most dinner hours so go a little earlier or later. The inside seating is cozy and the outside patio seating was spacious and had just enough shade. Nice selection of beer, wine, Bourbon and Scotch.
Great food as always but the management left a bad taste in our mouth that ruined the dinner. We arrived Wednesday evening for a family dinner before a couple people headed back to their home states. We requested a 6 person table outside and were told we could sit at a 4 table and a 2 table next to each other. Or, we could be put on a waitlist for a larger single table. We opted to wait and get one table to seat all six. Roughly 10 minutes later, we were called and shown to our seats. We were shown to a corner that had a 4 person and 2 person next to each other. Given the fact we had requested to wait for a larger table, we assumed we were supposed to combine the two in order to seat six people comfortably. The hostess watched us move the tables roughly 2.5 feet together and then provided us with our menus. Our server was fantastic and provided our drinks and appetizers promptly. Roughly 30 minutes after sitting down, another employee approached our table. She never introduced herself and instead started scolding us for several minutes that we were not allowed to move tables around and that it could damage the outside patio floor. This went on for an uncomfortably long time and we were left speechless as what to say in response. She finally left and we sat there trying to figure out what happened. It really killed the mood of what was supposed to be a final family dinner together until the winter holidays. If there is a policy about not moving tables, how come the hostess sat us there, watched us move the tables, and provided our menus? How come our server (who was great) didn't mention it? How come there are no signs on the patio stating this? To us, it seems like an internal issue that needs to be resolved and not blame the customer. How are customers supposed to know? I want to reiterate that this has nothing to do with our server. She was wonderful from start to finish.
Food is amazing! 2 out of the 3 times we have been here our service has sucked! Today we had to order a drink twice because they forgot about it. Food came out super quick, we were pretty much done eating when we were checked on again. Brought our check finally came to run our card at least 15 min later. Could overhear them complaining to other staff. Had time to do that, but not take care of us.
Hazlewood’s food was great, but the service was extremely lousy for the price and quality of the food. My friend and I sat for a solid 10 min in the back corner of the restaurant (down the ramp on the right from front entrance) until we were greeted, but not by our server. But, by a bartender who had been in the back stocking wine bottles into a milk crate. She came up to us and asked if we were greeted, and we replied “no”. Another 5 min goes by and the bartender brings us water and says our server will be with us shortly. And again another few min goes by, and our server finally arrives. We order 2 Hazlewood Lemonades, and now wait another 10 min for our drinks. Our server arrives with the drinks and said they didn’t have enough ingredients to make the drinks… (confused as there restaurant had opened many hours ago- and it was slow enough to prepare for night shift). The server then wanted to give us more time to order- which we declined as we had waited enough to even be paid attention to. I ordered the chicken pot pie my friend ordered a chopped salad. We barely tipped under 20%; as we are both servers and understand things happened. The visit was just very off- as all the other tables were greeted immediately. Was it because we were in our early 20’s? Seemed like the stereotype of being “cheap”? To wait that long in a restaurant with said “higher” standards is unacceptable, especially when the restaurant was fairly empty for a Thursday. The experience overall was just a big “…what?”
