One of the best Chinese restaurants I visited in Evansville. I ordered the Gung Bo Chicken lunch combo that came with soup and an egg roll. The egg drop soup was very nice probably among the better versions I tried. The egg roll was excellent. The outside was fresh, perfectly fried, crisp and tasty. It was served with bottles of hot mustard and sweet and sour. Both had a texture and tasted at a far different level from the standard tariff in other restaurants. The sweet and acidic sauce actually tasted fresh, and I would not be surprised if it also made the mustard. I am great on spices, and this attention to detail impresses me. Gung bo (gung bao), according to Google results, is the authentic dish from which kung pao is an Americanization. I don't remember seeing it on a menu, so I had to be my order. I asked the server what she recommended, but she had no answer. The gung bo came with a large bowl of fried rice, as expected, but instead of the random vegetables, which let me always think of repatriated remains, the rice was made with small cubes of tofu. I'm not a fan of Tofu as a meat substitute, but correspondingly used as I love it. The court itself was very good. Everything was fresh and tasty and very spicy as I demanded (although next time I will also ask for a bottle of hot sauce to get it right). I find it unusual for a Chinese restaurant to really distinguish themselves apart from freshness or diversity. Shing Lee's lunch menu hasn't changed me (although the dinner menu can), and the freshness was good. The more subtle the things they do differently are what this place has set apart. When I paid in the register, I asked again what her best dish was so I could try next time. Sesame chicken.
