Da Jerk Pit - Evanston

I would give this place five stars if the prices were a little more reasonable. The sandwiches are huge, but I think they could cut the amount of meat by a third and drop the price by $2. That said, the BBQ is amazing! It might just be some of the best brisket I've ever tasted!

As a New Yorker, I was initially quite skeptical about the food here, especially since most Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine in Chicago tends to disappoint. However, Da Jerk Pit completely exceeded my expectations! From the moment I stepped inside, the delicious aromas whisked me back to the restaurants in Jamaica, and I could smell the freshly baked beef patties. The restaurant is very clean, although they currently do not offer dine-in due to COVID regulations. The husband and wife team running the place have wonderful chemistry and greet you with warm smiles. Make sure to wear a mask; if you don't have one, they're more than happy to provide one for you at no cost. I ordered a large stew chicken with a side of mac and cheese, along with a mango drink, and everything was fantastic!

The top spot for genuine Jamaican cuisine in Evanston is definitely Da Jerk Pit. Their jerk chicken, jerk steak, and shrimp combo is exceptional, and the banana pudding desserts are simply delightful. The flavors are amazing, the portion sizes are generous, and the prices are quite reasonable compared to other Jamaican restaurants nearby. Da Jerk Pit truly ranks as the best!
