Bennison's Bakery - Evanston

I previously purchased items from Bennison's at the farmer's market, but this was my first visit to their location. The interior is slightly small, but they had a great selection of pastries available for a Saturday afternoon treat. The staff was friendly and attentive, even though it was quite busy with customers needing various services, such as cake orders, coffee purchases, and choosing pastries from the display. I tried an apple fritter and a muffin for just $5, which was a fantastic deal. I will definitely be returning!

This was my first visit to the bakery after hearing so many great things about it, so I decided to make the drive from my neighborhood in Gold Coast. I ended up buying more than I had planned. I have to give the Red Velvet Cake a solid 5 stars—it was incredibly delicious! Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the cream cheese coffee cake. It seemed like they forgot the cream cheese altogether, especially considering it cost $14.19. The cake was dry and just had some butter crumbs on top with a sprinkle of sugar. I was really disappointed. I've had better coffee cake from Jewel Supermarket or Mariano's, where they actually use real cream cheese, and it’s always moist and soft for just $6.00. After this experience at Bennisons, I won't be going back for any of their coffee cakes. I might try one of their other cakes next time—perhaps the carrot cake?

I've been here twice and I really enjoy the macaroons and almond croissants. I'm looking forward to returning and trying more items from the menu.

We bought the lamb cake for Easter. It was beautifully decorated. It didn't taste great. Dry and little taste. I expected more for $40.

If you are looking for a sweet treat and you are in Evanston, you definitely need to try Bennison's Bakery! The cookies, cakes, and breads are not only abundant in kind, but delicious. It is smaller inside which promotes a quick trip. The staff are very kind, helpful, and efficient. Bennison's also has the most delicious (and my personal favorite) zimtsterne cookies during the Christmas season. Though it's only a seasonal option, I do wait all year long for these cookies!
