Congratulations to the leader and your teams for your inventiveness, for the accuracy of the agreements, to let us discover dishes that we will never have the opportunity to discover elsewhere. Bravo to sommeliere for the choice of wines that match perfectly the dishes. Each of our passages at home gives us a real moment of discovery and happiness. I don’t know any other restaurant that can buy me so many surprises. Thank you, thank you.
A beautiful setting in Espelette with a vegetable garden right by the dining area. You watch as the chefs go into the garden and pick fresh vegetables and herbs for the use in the restaurant. The food is incredible, highly recommend. Great place to try local and fresh produce.
We do like to include nice meals when touring in our campervan and chose Choko Ona whilst staying at the aire in Espelette. We made our booking for 8pm (which is when they open) and received a friendly welcome. It was a warm evening so the bi-fold doors were open onto the vegetable garden. The tables were nicely spaced out giving diners plenty of privacy. They were aware we were English and we appreciated having a waitress who could speak English. We chose the 4 course menu at €56 per head. We started with the creative house cocktail of gin, strawberry sorbet, wine and cardamom. This was served with a selection of a amuse bouche served on a china octopus. The next course (my favourite) was courgette, raspberries and basil sorbet. The next course was a local fish served with a citrus buerre blanc. The meat course was pigeon, not a favourite of mine but it was nice considering. The desert was strawberries with whipped cream and a tarragon crisp. I was slightly disappointed with the desert as though it was lovely it seemed a little basic. This was more than made up for with the final course of a basil and yoghurt cream served with fig leaf water to end the meal. Overall a fabulous evening. Would highly recommend and definitely return if ever we are in the area.
Who knew how to surround himself with a very good team...First of all, his companion we took the tasting menu in five dishes, as we do for each star visited. Measuring and wine agreements for this time... because it was offered at a coherent price, compared to the menu price. (which is far from often the case in France)Very good professionalism of the room staff, with an accessit for the sommelier. Finally of the inventive kitchen and not the dishes of papa chef ..revisités.We will suddenly come back to...as soon as possible.Warning sometimes several weeks waiting for the reservation. Good wind to you
I have to say that choko ona is one of the most unforgettable. reception is carefully and organized with precision and benevolence. the result is a restaurant not overloaded in a charming and tastefully decorated atmosphere. we think everything was thought in the slightest detail, local covers, contacted service plates with dishes. we add the must, the table that contains the covers of the various services and even a hook to hang its bag. 4-course service was a pleasure, scented with fresh ingredients. The mix of dishes and wines is perfect. The rate is more than reasonable for a star. when booking, we are invited to specify if we have allergies. what was my case, the chef adapted two dishes to avoid the iteration of flavors by removing the kiwi. the view of the vegetable garden and the possibility to stroll after the meal is very pleasant in a word, perfection and a restaurant to discover without hesitation. the only dish is its success; Make a reservation at least one to two weeks before your visit to have a table. waiting is worth it, and only makes the rareness of such a beautiful experience.
