Cafe Du Palais - Espalion

We took a wrong turn and ended up in Espalion and thus ended up eating here. My wife and I were both presently surprised by the service and food. They provided popcorn and peanuts which I enjoyed prior to our meal. The drinks were much less expensive compared to other parts of France. English or Spanish is a bit limited but they spoke enough English to order and communicate. Staff was friendly and service was timely and the food was well prepared.

The attention is good, as it is the food and the quality vs price ratio. However, they were very slow and it seemed they forgot our order twice, so we had to wait for a long time for our lunch. Definitely not a place to go on a hurry!

Walkng the Chemin de St Jacques Espalion was our first night. Ate dinner here on recommedation of our B&B owner. Arrived at nearly 9pm. Swift and helpful service. The assiette mixtes of meats and cheese for a starter was big enough for the next day's lunch. Followed it with lovely confit duck and steak tartare both with different potatoes. All very good set us up well for the walk the next day. Definitely recommend this place to eat in.

A real knife beef tartar, organic Aubrac! When I came back from 9 days on Compostela Road, after a lot of sandwiches and meals on the box and very medium, I needed some fun at the table. I'm almost by chance... This coincidence is often good. Sweet meat, perfectly worked, fine cut, perfectly arranged with capers, red onion or chalot, I don't know anymore, and a hint of slightly homemade tomato sauce, pure pleasure. The glass of red wine ended this moment. (Sorry about the quality of the photo, I didn't think I'd publish! Thank you to the chef and the breeder I met when I left the restaurant.

Coming from a group to rest on a good day of walking on Compostela Road, we were very well received by the team and we ate very well, good local dishes and well served dishes up to our appetites. The prices were correct. It is an evening between pilgrims met on the way that will remain a very good memory.
