Cudes for food good for vegetarians and vegans 3.5 5 Green Stars Only from Ashford Castle come a long story! the atmosphere in Dromoland was more relaxed and less formal. But the service was just as good if not better because the staff was more self-employed. We ate in the Earl of Thomond twice for breakfast and once for dinner and were very happy with all meals and service. For dinner we went crazy and had the complete tasting menu – a vegetarian €95 and a “regular” €105 . Our dinner sessions were at the end of the evening, so our server was possibly horrified that we ordered this, we were there until almost 11:00! but he was happy throughout the service. We actually joked halfway, although dinner because at the order I said “that’s simple – a regular and a vegetarian tasting menu.” With nine courses, dinner is anything but easy – I had only meant that the order was easy! Overall, the Omnivore was probably more impressed by her food than I was with my vegetarian offers. For breakfast my Shakshuka was made beautiful while the “vegetarian breakfast” was good in parts amazing spinach but also a few vulnerabilities potato cake . For dinner, the vegetarian tasting menu also had a weak point or two – for example, the Risotto was a little too al Dente for me. But that's not bad for a nine-course meal. Some of the smaller items were the most impressive: The Cashel Blue Cheese Panna Cotta with walnut and pickled blackberries: This was my first time with Panna Cotta, as it is not normal vegetarian. Great start for dinner. Cratloe Hills Sheep's Cheese Ravioli in raw potato broth: The potato broth was the star of this plate. Blood Orange Green Peppercorn Sorbet in Campari jus: we both had this because it is also on the menu. Amazing! For breakfast there were many highlights, but the Scones and Pain Aux raisins were my favorites. Do not forget to ask for camouflaged cream for the Scones! Thanks to all our employees in Dromoland! Keep the vegetarian and vegan cuisine! I give the Earl of Thomond 3.5 of 5 Green Stars for social and ecological effects, for these reasons: • The Earl of Thomond has all gone to provide vegetarians with a full vegetarian tasting menu and a vegetarian à la carte menu that contains three vegan items. There is also a nice vegetarian breakfast menu. • Your main à la carte menu is quite all meat or fish-based, with the exception of a goat cheese starter. It makes sense to separate vegetarians from non-vegetarian on two menus, but it is a little sad because it implies that the “normal” diet is almost completely animal-based. The reproduction of some of the vegetarian menu items on the main menu could encourage some “normal” people to mix in some vegetables, now that the planet is at the edge of a climate catastrophe! • Sources of most meat, fish and cheese are named. Some of the meat is wild-baked rabbit, pheasant, venison . • Foie gras is on the menu – I have read gras on more-ethical foie, but it is still not great. • Most of their ingredients are made in Ireland and almost everything is made in the house.

Today, I went to the restaurant with my mom and sister. We were warmly welcomed by Aidan, who treated us like royalty. He truly is the King of Dromoland Castle. Aidan then led us to the Earl of Thomand restaurant for our lovely afternoon tea. The entire staff was friendly and professional, especially the waitresses who took great care of us. The food was outstanding, with a tasty complimentary starter from the chef. The finger sandwiches were expertly made with a variety of flavors, and the cakes and pastries were beautifully decorated and full of fresh flavors. To top it off, we savored warm scones at the end. I suggest trying the single tower plates for a wider selection. Our table had a breathtaking view of the castle and lake, making our experience even more magical. The castle blend tea was the perfect choice. After our meal, we strolled leisurely and a staff member kindly offered to take a family photo for us. The whole experience felt like something from a fairytale. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and we were bid farewell by King Aidan himself. It was a wonderful Irish experience with delightful Irish staff - truly a dream come true. We are excited to come back.
