Chatterbox Cafe - EMU PLAINS

This cafe has been here for years and several owners. Having lived in the area for most of that time I decided to venture in for lunch for the first time today. The coffee was hot and nice however the meal was just plain awful. I. ordered a chicken, asparagus and cheese melt. It was cold and lifeless. Just a sprinkling of cheese over cold tinned asparagus and on a dry bit of toast. The side salad was ordinary no love at all in the assembly just plain awful. Wont be back waste of money

The very small cafe was three quarters full when we arrived ,we sat down at a table that hadn't been cleared but neither had any of the other tables. After sitting for about 10 minutes we cleared our own table and went and asked for a menu as did the woman at the table beside us and she had been there at least 5 minutes before us. We had to get the attention of the staff who all seemed to be standing in a huddle talking but said they were busy and that's why we'd been kept waiting. No one came to take our order until another group came in and asked if they could please clear a table for them to sit at. When the food came it was ok but nothing on this menu has changed in years and the specials are always the same. I came regularly to this cafe and service was always quick and friendly but I've been away a couple of years and it has changed hands and has gone downhill. On a previous visit a couple of weeks ago we arrived half an hour before closing but they refused to make raisin toast as it was close to closing time but they were able to make a coffee which would've taken longer. This has always been convenient to my work so a good place to catch up with friends for lunch or a quick snack after work , unfortunately there is nowhere else in the centre with indoor seating,so in future I'll just catch up with friends on my days off because I won't be going back.

Great cafe and nice staff. Tasty food. You must try the honey mustard chicken and all desserts because they are amazing!

As we live in the area we like to catchup with friends for coffee and get out and about. The chatterbox cafe is a great meeting point, small and cosy.
