I'm not a wing girl, but damn were those pepper Parmesan wings delicious. I had 3, and if I didn't have a big pizza coming my way, I would've had more. They were juicy, flavorful, and plump! For pizza we went with the September pizza of the month, the bulgogi. While normally I'd go for a slightly more traditional pizza, I'm super happy that we went with this one. Such a unique pie that was absolutely loaded up with flavor. From the spicy Gochujang sauce to the sweet bulgogi, and the sour kimchi, it was an absolute explosion of flavor (and spice) in your mouth. Pizza was also pretty massive. There were two of us that were pretty hungry and we ended up taking half of it back home with us. Even though we were stuffed from the pizza, we wanted to wash the spice down with something sweet so we ended up getting dessert. We ordered the chocolate cake, enjoyed a few bites of it, then were told the tiramisu was where it was at, so gave that a try too. I myself am a chocolate girl, so the cake was the winner for me, but the tiramisu was nice and boozy, so no going wrong there either. We came by on a Saturday early evening and found street parking a few steps from the restaurant. Seems like there is only street parking and not a ton of it, so might have to walk a little bit. Excited to see what other creative and fun pizzas chef Jeff makes in the future!
We've ordered takeout from Spinning Dough several times, and the pizza is truly delicious! The crust boasts a well-developed flavor and stays thin without becoming soggy in the middle. Their menu features both classic and creative options, with a special each month. Recent monthly specials have included a bulgogi and gochujang pizza, Thai green curry, and for November, they have a turkey and cranberry pizza. The owner and staff are very friendly, and my pizza has always been ready on time for pickup. While the prices are slightly higher than chain pizzas, they’re only a few dollars more, and I feel great about supporting a small business. Given the unique flavors, generous portions, and excellent service, it's definitely worth it! I can't wait to try the ube pizza next.
What we ordered: **Ube Pizza** (bechamel, a mix of potatoes, red onions, sausage, ube ricotta, and scallions on an ube-infused crust). This pizza was stunning to look at, definitely winning in presentation, and the flavor was a delightful balance of sweet and savory. **Maple Chili Baked Wings** - These wings were large and juicy, leaning on the sweeter side while still delivering a nice spicy kick. Our server was friendly and made sure to check on us regularly. Given the hustle and bustle of the restaurant, I really appreciated the personal attention we received, as it’s a small local business. No complaints at all. This is a fantastic casual spot for some unique pizzas, and I’m definitely adding it to my list of go-to places when I'm in Oakland.
I recently had the pleasure of trying something truly out of the ordinary an Ube pizza. This unique experience was a delightful adventure for my taste buds. The Ube pizza was a captivating fusion of savory and sweet. The purple hued Ube sauce served as the base, providing a subtle earthy sweetness that perfectly complemented the cheesy toppings. The contrast between the creamy Ube sauce and the melted cheese was a culinary revelation, and it made for a surprising yet harmonious combination. The experience of dining on this Ube pizza was as unique as the pizza itself. It was served in a charming, cozy restaurant that was unafraid to experiment with flavors and techniques. The ambiance and service were as delightful as the pizza itself, making for an unforgettable evening with my friends. If you're an adventurous foodie looking for a one of a kind culinary adventure, I highly recommend trying THIS Ube pizza. It's a delicious departure from the ordinary that will leave you with a taste of something extraordinary.
As for the pizza, it featured an array of toppings that I had never encountered together before. The ube paste added a hint of sweetness, while the béchamel sauce and sausage brought in savory salty flavors. Each bite was definitely intriguing! My favorite part was the crust; I'm not usually a fan of thin crust, but the chef prepared it perfectly, giving it a nice chew. To complement our meal, the chef also shared some appetizers with us, including a Thanksgiving-themed pizza, which was another delightful surprise! I would highly recommend this place for foodies looking for a fun dining experience with something new to try. While it leans toward the pricier side, it’s worth it for a fun date night or dinner with friends. The portion sizes are generous, and the flavors are truly unique! I will definitely be keeping an eye on this restaurant to see what new flavors they come up with next!
