Four of us dined, and each dish was surprisingly lacking in taste. There was no seasoning at all, and the food did not resemble any Indian cuisine we've had before. The only item with some flavor was the onion bhaji. It's baffling because there are some positive reviews for the restaurant, but based on our experience with the takeout, it's not worth it. It seems like they serve a lower quality of food for the discounted price. This will be our first and last time ordering from Viceroy.
I had such a terrible experience at this restaurant that I don't even know where to begin. We ordered some takeout, including saag paneer, hot lamb curry, paratha, and naan bread. Unfortunately, everything was so bad that we had to throw it all away. The saag was overly sweet, tasting more like a dessert than a savory dish. The paneer was crystallized with sugar, lacking any spice and with a strange coconut flavor. It was not at all what a saag should be, making it unsuitable for someone with diabetes. The lamb curry was mediocre at best, swimming in onions and a bland gravy with no spices. The breads were doughy and dense, so much so that most of it had to be thrown away. As someone of Asian descent who grew up eating curry, I know what authentic saag and curry should taste like, and this was definitely not it. I am at a loss for words as to how anyone could leave a positive review after my experience with the lack of flavor and quality of this food. I have tried many variations of saag and curry from different regions of India, but never have I encountered a dish so far from authentic. It's disappointing that the restaurant cannot even call their food Indian when it lacks authenticity and flavor. I feel cheated that we had to throw away the food we ordered, especially since Deliveroo orders cannot be refunded. I strongly suggest that the restaurant reviews its menu ingredients and recipes and hires authentic, qualified Indian chefs who can do justice to Indian cuisine.
A group of 12 of us dined at this restaurant and all of our meals were served together. The staff and owner were very friendly. We found the prices to be excellent value and our takeaways are always ready quickly. We are regular customers and highly recommend this restaurant, especially in light of the current cost of living crisis. Give it a try and you'll be pleasantly surprised.
We had awful through the door at a discounted rate. I have just had an operation and thought I would order a selection so we could have a few proper meals. Of the 6 main dishes, there were only 2 sauces involved. Imagine Goan fish curry tasting the same as Lamb Madras!! Oh and both sauces were sweet....the third to taste the same was Butter Chicken. The prawn puri was the only edible dish.....after you had mopped up a tablespoon of oil. Keep your money in your pocket, this restaurant is a throwback to the 70s and an insult to the knowledgeable palate if today
Very very disappointed! Won’t be going there again. Put prices up at least 20% still cheaper than other places until you open the actual curry and it’s 50% less than you usually get! I don’t think inflation has gone up 70%!!!!!!!! The last you have seen of us unless you change!!!!
