I got my food quickly after ordering. I love that they bring the table a carafe of water so you can refill as you need rather than depending on the very busy waitress to keep your glass full. I ordered the Western omelette with a side of American fries and bacon. The American fries weren't exactly what I was expecting, but still good. I guess in my mind I thought they would be chunks of potatoes that had been roasted to crispy, but they were actually thin slices of potatoes that had been fried mostly crispy on a griddle. I think this restaurant would do really well with some chunky home fry style potatoes. The omelette was tasty, although maybe just barely underdone.... I found a few places where the egg whites weren't quite firm. I ordered my omelette with Swiss cheese, and it turned out very well. If there were one more thing that they could add to make it over the top, I think a nice dollop of tangy hollandaise sauce would be absolutely amazing.I think the bacon was my favorite part. They serve thick slices cooked to perfection. I'm pretty sure I could have eaten the whole plate of just the bacon. As several of said in other reviews, I would love to see this place get an update on their decor and furniture. It's a small place, in a small town, so I guess I wouldn't expect it to be over the top extravagant when it comes to decoration of furniture..... But that would be so nice if it was a little more up to date.
We arrived at the lunch time rush. Waitress was very busy and very nice. All the locals loved her, I think her name was Charly. My mom had the cod sandwich which she loved. On our trip to MI we noticed almost every restaurant had a green olive burger, so I decided to give it a try. It was interesting but good.Like other reviews mentioned, the place is out dated but that doesn't stop the locals from supporting the establishment. Replacing broken window on front door and new carpet/flooring would be a nice start to improving the atmosphere. We had no room for pie but heard almost every customer rave about the pecan pie. Also the menu is stapled together, adorable!
On our way to the Tunnel of Trees, we stopped at T.J. Charlie’s. The hand cut fries are perfect crispy, not greasy and golden brown. I had the Cobb salad with the maple vinaigrette. Truly a wonderful salad. My husband a tuna melt, which he said hit the spot. Our waitress, Kimmy, was a delight. If you get a chance, stop in. Oh and I’m gluten and dairy free. They do not have GF bread or bun but we’re very accommodating to my dietary need.
Horrible place! Decor from the 90's, uneven/unbalanced tables, yellow water jugs, dirty carpet. If you can eat outside it's bearable but inside is a joke! Especially compared to the town club or chef charles.
Come early for breakfast as they can get pretty busy. Staff was super friendly and food was good.
