Barra Airport Cafe - Eilean Siar

The runway is a beach. Brilliant! Lovely little airport with a café and a nice waiting area. Staff are friendly and kind and it's an amazing experience for anyone. I love how your bags are brought up the beach on a buggy and waiting for you in a little shelter outside. The only negative is that flights are sometimes cancelled due to the weather. Overall nice and simple I'll give this one stars.

Fantastic experience.. Seeing a plane land on the beach and take off from it is quite unique.. check flight schedules before you wait.. it might get cancelled if the weather is bad..You can also drive on the beach if you have a good car.. Just head as if going to the sound of Barra ferry and take a left before that to go to the beach.. But view the landing and take off from the airport car park.. It is free and amazing views..

Must be the smallest and friendliest airport I've been to! Good views of the planes and no delays but not much to distract the waiting traveller.
