If you are looking for a place called Spinellis, it appears it is the restaurant portion of the Italian Food centre. We decided to go to this place for lunch. We both ordered a torpedo sandwich from their specials board thinking this should be their freshest. One sandwich was supposed to be smoked maple turkey and the other a corned beef. The two thin little pieces of meat and cheese that is put on the sandwiches were minuscule and flavourless. The cafe latte was good, but pretty expensive. The large lattes we ordered were disappointingly small. You can easily get a bigger latte from Starbucks that is just as good or better than what they serve here. The restaurant is part of the food store. You order and pay for your food at the counter then wait for your order to be called. Oh...and btw, the prices in the food store are way too high. They do sell a lot of unique ethnic food, but you can get the exact same items elsewhere in the city for much more reasonable prices. It's difficult to shop in the store as the aisles are narrow barely wide enough to allow one cart in some places. Good luck maneuvering through these aisles! It is very unlikely I will ever be back.
I buy 50% of my groceries at this place. I love that I can find my favourite products from Europe and LatinAmerica. I am glad about the bar changes. As a restaurant I think the west end is nicer and downtown one, more iconic. It is hard to find a place to seat but that is fine. I don't mind. I love my Sunday's that way. Sipping tea, cappuccinos and having a nice bowl of soup after shopping for the week. The food is great and eating while listening to all the languages and accents that gather at this neighbourhood gem, is just great!!!I love it.
Everytime we visit Edmonton this is a mandatory stop for us. The bakery offers delectible treats, the coffee is always top notch, the food is fresh and tasty and they offer a variety of hot and cold drinks. The market is very worldly and is one of the few places we can seem to find our favourite Portuguese olive oil.The fresh bread, cheese and meats are worth every penny.Highly recommend a visit!
My daughter and I love shopping at the Italian Market and decided to stop in to the café. The cappuccino was wonderful and she mentioned that the macchiato was one of the best she's ever had. My daughter said the biscotti was really good, especially dipped! It is busy usually, but there seems to a pretty quick turn over and we didn't have to wait long for a table. If it's too busy when you come, spend some time shopping in the market. Guaranteed you will find something to your liking.
