Runaway Spoon Bistro - Edmonton

This place is not very big, older period furniture but comfortable. Nice for an evening out in an intimate setting.

We work close by, but have recently had lunch and found the prices increased again and the food quality is okay but not for the price. Serving sizes small for big costs. Too bad cause they have a lovely secret garden in the back of the restaurant. Won't be back.

Dish and Runaway Spoon is right - run away from this place! Atmosphere is interesting - local art - uneven lighting - no extra heat by the windows/doors in Dec. AND the service was ATROCIOUS. We waited for 5-10 minutes before the server came and got our drinks order, did not attend to us while we ate the meal. Portions were small and the food was heated up mildly as it was prepped earlier in the day - you could tell. The rice and vegetables that came with the main were just that - plain boiled rice and plain boiled veg - nothing special there. Prices were about 3-$4 above that on their website. No music, uneven lighting, there was a heater but it was not turned on. One lady asked about moving to a warmer spot and the server just said that's because the door was opened. It doesn't matter - if your guest is not comfortable, you attend to them. I don't mind paying for good food and service - but this place had neither. There is a reason they always have a GROUPON - but it's only for $13 off so that's not an incentive. Too bad, this place has potential - the food itself is pretty good - but it just needs the other details looked at too - the dining experience is a lot more than the food.

My boyfriend and I bought a groupon for the Dish since we were going to be housesitting nearby for a weekend. I wasn't expecting too much since the website looks quite dated, but we were blown away. It was a warm evening and we were seated in the back patio - it was gorgeous. There were plants hanging everywhere and it had a very romantic rustic feeling. I can't speak for the interior of the restaurant but I'm sure it wouldn't disappoint either. I ordered off of the specials menu which I'm told is updated frequently and my boyfriend had the braised short ribs. We were both blown away by our meals, and combined with one of their bottles of red wine, it was a perfect evening.
