When you arrive, the first question they ask is, "Are you here for take-out"? If you aren't, you have to order at the counter and only part of their menu is shown, so you have to grab one of their takeout menu's to see what all they have. Once you get your food, you have to go back up to the counter to pick it up and also to get all your utensils and there are only three bottles of soy sauce, so you have to fill little containers. The assorted vegetable Tempura I ordered was crisp, but the assortment was three pieces of yam and three pieces of zuchini - not very assorted or imaginative. The first piece tasted a bit like old cooking oil, but the rest didn't seem to taste bad - just not very flavourful - bland. The nigiri portions are small for the price, but seemed fresh. The sushi chef's don't overload each piece with rice, which is nice. The california maki is four medium size pieces, which makes it expensive as you usually get 6 pieces for the same price at other places. It was different than any California roll I've had before - it had egg in it - but tasted like a california roll should.Overall, I wish I knew of a better sushi place on the north side of Edmonton that I could try.
This is my favourite place to get food court food. I especially like the sukiyaki beef. Make sure you get the sesame sauce with it. You really only need the small portion but go for the medium as it tastes so good.
Good fresh sushi. Not the most elaborate rolls, just the basics but very tastey none the less. The rice plates are massive and everything is inexpensive. A regular go to staple for castledowns Japanese lovers.
At the Namao Centre the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. For a first time visit tried the avocado maki, on a recommendation from a diner, as well as the rainbow maki, which icluded salmon and tuna. Also tried the spider roll, soft shell crab. All were good, but not outstanding. The wasabi sauce was excellent and the pickled ginger good. Had heard about their sesame sauce, tried it at home, it was tasty, but salty. Would order their teriyaki next time as it sounds very good.
My former co-workers and I used to hit Mt Fuji at least once (sometimes twice) a week for lunch.First off, let me inform you that I'm in no way a connoisseur of Japanese food and I have no idea if they serve up genuine Japanese cuisine or if it's quickly thrown together slop to sell to gullible westerners...like myself. Also I'm not a sushi guy so I can't help you with a recommendation there. My favourite is their Teppan-yaki Beef and Chicken meal. It's just Teriyaki beef and chicken with steamed rice and vegetables but it's damn good. The food is always fresh, moist, and hot off the grill. It's better than the rice bowls you can get at Tokyo Express. TE's food is often dry and they're stingy with the meat. Mt. Fuji's meat-to-veggie ratio is about even and their portions are a fair size. The only real downside to Mt. Fuji is the long lines and wait times during the lunch rush. It's often lined up outside the door (literally) and the place is stuffed inside...with soldiers and police officers. They're right next door to a police station and CFB Edmonton is few clicks down the road. This is probably the safest eating establishment in the city. So if security is a major concern of yours while you're eating your lunch then this place is for you. Because of the crowds I would suggest phoning in your lunch order as opposed to just showing up. It will go a lot quicker that way. If you plan on eating your food there, good luck finding a table. The establishment is too small for the amount of clientele that show up there. At least during the noon hour.Oh yeah, they have one of those annoying debit machines that prompts you to tip before you pay for your meal. They have no wait staff there. Why would I want to tip the counter chick for taking my order and calling out my number five minutes later? Change the settings on your debit machine, Mt. Fuji people. Not that you're reading this since you remain unclaimed on Yelp!
