So often in W Canada, Indian food feels like it comes out of a pipeline that feeds into every restaurant with the same dishes: huge chunks of onion, quarters of red pepper and more bone than meat in a curry gravy. Not here! We needed a place to sit and rest on a Saturday and headed into Haweli for a small snack. I had the vegetable soup and my husband ate the minced chicken kababs. You could taste to love of food in every bite. This was no pipeline experience! We returned with low expectations for a meal. I ate lamb curry, we had fish pakoras and more kebabs. We also had an Indian salad of tomato, cucumber and onion on the side along with 3 big fluffy nan. OK- it sounds like a lot of food, and it was, but wow was it great (and we fearlessly ordered 'spicy ' Both times we went during the day on a weekend and had the place to ourselves. Haweli, I, am told, means 'mansion ' and this place is vast. Probably packed on weekdays with office folks, the calm and good service were welcome. Listen, there is nothing wrong with pipeline cooking but folks, this is cuisine!
This place is my go to for delivery! The butter chicken is delicious and you can choose the spice level and the naan is to die for!
Went to the south common location of Haweli for the buffet lunch. The food was Luke warm at best except for the butter chicken dish and the curry goat. The sauce on the butter chicken had very little spice and if tasted like a Campbell tomato soup base.. The curried goat had very little taste and was mostly tough. Because of the Luke warm temperature of the other dishes we were unsure about eating them Would definitely not recommend this place
It was a buffet lunch for a kids Birthday Party. Private room with plenty of food offered in the buffet. This is an authentic East Indian Restaurant.
