I dared a taste as it was hesitant to eat a whole meal of this local dish. the braided slowly boiled lamb shank, which is cooked in a rosmarin, red wine and cranberry, is worthy of its mouth. the rosti fritter stacks with a fresh and crispy coleslaw is a light main function. they have a wide range of local and international craftsmen, if not knock an alcoholic drink, try a Bundaberg walker beer, soouo refreshing. service was pleasant.
Lunch with family friends, didn't know what to expect, wasn't disappointed. We all opted for different meals, each one of us throughly enjoyed wlhat was presented to us. Staff extremely friendly, nice relaxing atmosphere, lovely decor throughout. A true gem of a find, so many enticing meals to be sampled, certainly will be back, and soon too.
Previously the brief home to a second branch of Porto Fi, then a burger place, then the Crafters Barn, then the Makar’s Rest, the Makar’s Gourmet Mash Bar Company is winning no prizes for snappiest name to occupy this challenging North Bank Street location. I’d visited the Makar’s Rest a few months back and it had been very poor. However, given its proximity to the Writers’ Museum and the potential for the place to be a useful crossover location for literary events, I decided to give them a pass and revisit in a few months. It was interesting to note their change of incarnation in the meantime.
I had a wonderful lunch here for a more than fair price. The cafe was clean and the staff was very friendly. They have a nice selection of mains, pizza, cakes and other baked goods and drinks. The views from the windows are very nice. It is a good place to begin or end your trip to the castle or perhaps a midway pick me up or cake and tea!
The soup is good especially on a rainy day. The lady at the food service is nice but the cashier guy, David C, kept talking with his colleague and even didn't bother to look at me until I asked to pay with card. Please respect the customers when working and respond to their greeting at least by looking at them!
