I did decide to forego the wine tasting pairing and cheese course as a result. Having said that, the food was spectacular and the wines I did sample were great (thank you for letting me taste from the wine pairing menu for the white great flexibility to make up for the slow start). The seven course is well worth the price and the wait staff were friendly and happy to chat over the dishes and ingredients. The Sake Ginger Grapefruit cocktail I ordered at the start was a revelation as well!
Nothing to say about the kitchen. Not exceptional but good. But the services is a little too much for me. Meals presentation are done by heart like at school with no emotion. We spent a good time but stayed with no specific remember and no wahoo effect!
While trying to choose our dining options for a food-focused weekend in Edinburgh, I was slightly hesitant about booking aizle, since I hadn't seen a sample menu. I'm very glad that I didn't let that stop me, because the dishes were all delicious and inventive. All of the flavors were well balanced, the presentation was on point, and we had a tough time choosing our favorite dishes. Service was on a rotating basis, and our table was handled by 3 or 4 different wait staff, with two in particular serving the majority of the dishes. All were extremely friendly and efficient, projecting the impression of true pride and enjoyment in their work. I had read some critical reviews of the hotel-lobby location, and while there were a few times I noticed luggage trolleys and guests pass by in the hallway, the space is well-separated from the hotel. It's not a fully immersive location, but it didn't feel distracting. The space itself has a bit of a botanical greenhouse feel that made me think of an indoor garden party. The clientele on the evening of our visit was a varied mix with young foodie couples, small groups, and refined older pairs. The dress code was equally varied with smart casual being the most common. The only thing that kept my experience from being completely perfect was the glass of prosecco that started the evening. It had so little effervescence that it was just a small step away from still wine. After it was served, there was no follow-up, before the first course was served, so I never had the chance to question it. And the food distracted me enough to just let it go. If you're an aficionado of bubbles, I'd suggest asking for input to ensure you find something to your tastes.
Extremely disappointed in this restaurant. The staff were surly and obviously couldn’t be bothered being there. Only one member of staff managed to smile. The food was fine but we all agreed that we were still hungry when we left. We have been here before and enjoyed our meal. This time we came with friends and I was embarrassed to have recommended it.
One of the best food experiences on my trip. The tasting menu is very well-planned and highlights the ingredients. My top two would be lamb belly and the fish dish. Amazing texture and flavor combination. Worth a visit if you're ever in Edinburgh.
