The food was delicious, but I was surprised to see that the restaurant was nearly empty on a Saturday night. Only two tables were being used at a time while we were there, although there seemed to be a steady stream of carry-out orders. Despite the lack of customers, the service was lacking. There were two waiters and someone who appeared to be the manager, but they did not seem very attentive. We did not feel very welcome. The food was excellent, not overly spicy like some other restaurants. It's a shame that the atmosphere and service were disappointing, and I'm curious as to why it was so quiet.
I visited this restaurant by myself on a quiet Monday evening. I started with vegetable pakora, which came with a bland yogurt dip. I requested chili sauce, which was promptly brought to the table. For my main course, I had the lamb karahi with a chapati. The lamb was tender and the sauce of onions, peppers, and chili was delicious. I had a glass of tap water and the bill came to just over £15. The service was efficient and friendly. I would definitely return to this restaurant.
The Raj has received mixed reviews lately, but my recent visit was excellent. I was pleased with the speed of service and the delicious, well-prepared food. While some familiar staff members were missing, the new staff were friendly and efficient. Overall, The Raj offers the best sit-down curry experience in this area of Edinburgh.
We stopped at the Raj tonight, on the way home from the Edinburgh Festival by chance. We were very lucky that not, like food, service and the atmosphere was fantastic. One of the wes waiters also very friendly and respectful to an old man who had been able to have a glass of wine.
We went there for the first time in a year and they gave us a table in the window that had no lighting at less than 6 feet and it was a dark night of rain. I asked for light (thinking) but at least the candles all they did was lift the general lighting that made a small difference and cast out long shadows in our food. In retrospect, in the absence of bids you should have insisted on an illuminated table. The fresh and cheap food Popadoms sauces and non-study in volume or taste.Intradas mixtas muy buenoCampos principales (bueno, magnificent biryani rice, but the salsa was a bit sous and not enough) for excellent (aromatic cord). Pilau rice was beautiful, garlic naan was fine, but not very garlic. Presentation was good.Service was disappointed. It was very slow indeed despite being empty and three staff visible at the end of the restaurant perhaps could not see us in our pool of darkness
