Food was fine, and I might have given three stars, except that our server Nick made me the most incredible cappuccino with almond milk. He also had good suggestions for what to order. Truly exceptional service and I am bumping it up to four stars. Excellent almond milk cappuccino. Thank you Nick!
Much nicer than the standard full English buffet. You can get that if you wish, or get waffles, kippers, smoked salmon, bacon&egg rolls, etc. There was a nice cheese, fruits and meat selection, and light and flaky pastries. The omelet was cooked in a skillet, with cheese and tomatoes then added, and cooked through (without flipping). It was brown underneath and a bit rubbery.
If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a disaster. We waited 30 minutes for a table. We couldn’t figure out why no one was leaving…and now we know….there is NO SERVICE HERE!!!!!!!! Zero. Nada. We’re leaving. Forfeiting the upfront payment £14 per person. The people next to us ordered one roll and 45 minutes later it still had not arrived! Never again.
My partner and I visited the restaurant for a three course meal, late November. The place is very attractive and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. I had the tempura king prawns for a starter, partner had Hirata buns, Asian slaw with soya glazed chicken both delicious. The mains were grilled Scotch cheese burger with usual the accompaniments, parter enjoyed everything. I went for the roast chicken breast, chorizo, pan fried gnocchi, rocket, red wine jus was excellent, chicken was very tender. Desserts were the warm frangipane raspberry tart with delicious poached plum and vanilla mousse, toasted coconut and pineapple salsa. Both very nice, the frangipane and plum compote being the winner. It seemed somewhat busy for a Monday evening and there was only one server on for all the guests. But service was excellent and timely, the server Jimmie was superb, very helpful, friendly and professional a credit to the business. Compliments to the chefs, food was very lovely. Bill was £56 and change for two 3 course meals and two soft drinks. Excellent value, especially for Edinburgh City centre. Would definitely recommend and would return to try more of the menu.
Beautiful setting and gorgeous food. The sea bream was perfect! We were also huge fans of the chocolate souffle and its rhubarb and ginger ice cream. Excellent service too. Will definitely be going back.
