This traditional, charming pub is exactly as it should be. It features an open fire, great beer, and outdoor seating in a quiet village with a babbling brook nearby. They even have live music occasionally. Food is rated 4 out of 5, service is a 5, and the atmosphere is a 4.
We were disappointed by the high praise for this restaurant as we found the food to be average for Lake District standards, although the prices were reasonable. My steak was tough and chewy, but my husband enjoyed his dish with some salt and pepper. The restaurant claims to be dog-friendly, but it felt like they would prefer if customers didn't bring their dogs due to a long list of rules, which were not mentioned upfront. We brought our small puppy, but were asked to put her on the floor, even though she was on a blanket on my lap. The staff were unfriendly and somewhat dismissive throughout our visit, creating an odd atmosphere. Despite liking the decor, we won't be returning as there are friendlier restaurants with better food in nearby Pooley Bridge. Parking is limited and may require parking on a narrow road. Overall, the food was average, service was poor, atmosphere was lacking, and parking was challenging. Price per person was around £20-30 for dinner.
Brilliant little gem Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Fantastic pub which was welcoming of us and our dog and food and service was brilliant. Will definitely return when back in the area. Even though the dog was slightly obstructing their way waitresses were great and understanding. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
