Food is pretty good, not fantastic. friendly staff! the queue is super long, probably bc it was the 15th of the lunar month hence waiting time was very long! we ordered 1. veggie pancake $1 mediocre, nice and crisp! 2. olive fried rice $4.50 (request no egg for vegan) the best out of the 3, a bit disappointed with the lack of wokhey flavour. very oily but overall pretty tasty. large portion. 3. mee goreng $4 this one was meh. tastes nothing like mee goreng and way too spicy! good effort tho. large portion. very oily too. overall it was a pleasant experience, i’d love to patronise again to try some recommended dishes... perhaps i didn’t order right this time.
I asked the auntie if we could order fried oyster without egg and they said yes bonus! It came out tasty and the chilli was nice, sour and spicy. The Hokkien Mee was great, portion slightly small, but the highlight was the fake bacon inside. Delicious! All in all, a tasty meal and the uncle and auntie were accommodating to our vegan needs.
I got the black carrot cake bonus that they made the carrot cake base themselves, I think but it turned out a little greasy for me, with not enough radish to balance it out. The duck rice had a good rice texture, but made use of pretty awkwardly processed mock duck. Overall, affordable place with great service, but average food quality (expected for Zi char)
I tried their Nasi Briyani today and it is quite flavourful. It would be good if they can add in more ingredients such as Tofu and Tempe. More fresh vegetables would be great too!
