The decor was still a work in progress, but the staff were very friendly. The pulled pork had a nice smoky flavor, and the turkey was moist and flavorful. The baked beans were among the best I've had at BBQ places. We chose to eat here based on the recommendation of the office staff at the adjacent campsite, and we were not disappointed.
I decided to visit this restaurant after reading a review from someone who spoke with a few Texans. They mentioned that one of them, who claimed to be from Dallas, called it the best brisket he'd ever had. He suggested that if the Texans knew about it, they would go there too. While I can see their enthusiasm, I wouldn't call it the best brisket I've ever tasted. It wasn't bad, but it required a bit of effort to cut through, and it seemed a little overcooked. It's not on the level of Aaron Franklin or Tim Izidowski. However, I should note that St. Louis isn't particularly known for brisket, and this is actually in Illinois. Perhaps it's the best brisket south of I-70, north of the Mason-Dixon line, east of the Mississippi, and west of Effingham? Who knows.
HITS! We are big BBQ fans and have tried many different places. This one is really impressive! The staff was attentive and frequently checked in to ensure we were satisfied. The baked beans were likely the best we've ever had, and the homemade potato chips were delicious too! They were also very accommodating when it came to food allergies. Definitely eat here! I'm so glad we did!
The best we had! The ribs were so good and so delicate, we never used the sauce that comes with them on the side. The onion rings were fantastic. They have an almost sweet crispy coating. The potato salad should die. It's like it has cream cheese in it. The roasted bread was also excellent. As for the service. It was wonderful. They come as a guest and go as a friend. Don't miss this place. That's the best.
Stumbled on this place searching for good BBQ on a drive home through the east side of the Mississippi; glad we found it. Cute place, owner's wife explained the menu. We got Pulled Pork and Brisket plates which includes two sides. Pork very moist and lean, a bit weak on smoke flavor, but still excellent! Brisket plate had 8 thick slices, wonderful smoky flavor, tender, better than any steak! Baked beans the best according to my wife. Potato salad and homemade slaw excellent. Pasta salad was a bit sweet but still very tasty. Will definitely go back. If you are traveling through, worth a small detour, just a couple miles off I-55. Highly recommended! ????????????
