Hillside Sweet Shoppe - East Haddam

This place offers delicious ice cream, homemade whipped cream, and a variety of vegan options! Everything was just perfect, and the staff was incredibly friendly, even with a large order and only one person on duty. She made our visit very enjoyable. I definitely recommend stopping by after lunch at the Gelston House!

The soft serve and creamy ice creams were absolutely delicious! The owner was very accommodating with our custom requests and even provided extra wet napkins. It was a delightful experience, and I definitely plan to return. The only reason I'm giving it four stars is that a couple of flavors on the menu were out of stock. I hope to visit again soon to try those flavors and potentially upgrade my rating to five stars!

If you remember the old Sweet Shoppe situated up the hill from this location, don’t expect to find the same place when you visit. This is not the Hillside Sweet Shoppe of my childhood. I’m sure COVID impacted them greatly, but even if they had toppings and other options, the place feels quite small and is in significant disrepair. However, it is ice cream, so if you’re in the area and craving a cold treat, it’s adequate.

It has a pretty good variety of rich ice cream choices. The Cherry Amaretto is the best! They only have 2, maybe 3 tables outside but there's always the Eagle Landing State Park across the bridge that has a few benches and the river view
