The lady who managed the tea rooms was incredibly kind and welcoming. The scones were fresh and tasty, and she even treated us to some delicious clotted cream biscuits. In our six days in Devon, this was the best cup of tea I've had, served in a generously sized pot. We were also tempted by the cheesy crumpets that another couple was enjoying - they looked amazing! We highly recommend stopping by this restaurant.
During our holiday in nearby Sidmouth, we decided to visit Ottery St Mary for a light lunch. We always seek out independent local cafes and tea shops, and we were pleased with our choice. The owner was friendly and engaging, offering information about the town. The food was delicious and the pot of tea was just what we needed. This cafe was exactly the type of place we love to discover!
After a 4 mile walk we were in need of a stop for a cup of tea and something to eat. We stumbled across this cafe as most places seemed closed. A warm friendly welcome, we sat in the rear garden and had tea and fresh sandwiches. A great find, with lovely hosts.
During our visit to St Mary's Church, we decided to have an afternoon tea. The exterior of this place may not be impressive, but it is owned by a local couple who are incredibly friendly and welcoming hosts. Although the courtyard at the back may not be visually appealing, we had a delightful time sitting there for an hour. The afternoon tea was reasonably priced but of exceptional quality, with everything freshly homemade.
Enjoyed poached eggs on toast and pot of tea. All very good. Quite quaint traditional tea rooms but does have some quirky and antique things for sale. Very friendly.
