The Nutty Squirrel - Eagle River

For our main course, we both opted for the perch and bluegill platter, as enjoying a fish fry is a Wisconsin Friday tradition. When our food arrived, we were amazed! Two huge platters overflowing with tender fish and all the sides we could want. The potato pancakes were so good they didn't even need applesauce or syrup, and the slaw was delicious. By the time I finished my meal, I felt completely satisfied. If you're looking for a place where the locals gather, where you'll be greeted with friendly faces, and where the food will blow you away, The Nutty Squirrel is the perfect choice.

The food was excellent, and the atmosphere was really enjoyable. It's a must-visit in Eagle River! We tried to finish our meals but just couldn't do it. The waitstaff were fantastic, and the prices are unbeatable!

I had my first Wisconsin sour old fashioned here, and it was fantastic! I ordered broasted chicken with coleslaw, hand-cut fries, and a warm breadstick. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, and the coleslaw was good as well. I noticed that Wednesday is $2 burger night, and I saw many people ordering both chicken and burgers. We will definitely be returning. I've heard that the Friday night fish fry is excellent. The place has a small bar and about 12 tables, so it's best to go early!

I ordered the bluegill and perch plate with potato pancakes, while my partner had the squid and French fries. The bluegill and perch were coated in a light panko breading, and the squid was prepared with a traditional beer batter that was thin and crispy. The plates were served as all-you-can-eat, but the portions were generous enough that we didn’t need any extra fish. Each meal came with baked beans, coleslaw, rye bread, and one side. The bartender did an impressive job, managing to serve dozens of drinks to tables within the first 15 minutes of opening, all while handling the bar service. If you're ordering an Old Fashioned, make sure to have your entire drink order ready—he was working hard and only received a small tip for five drinks. Please be kind to your bartenders! I highly recommend this spot for a great Friday fish fry. It was bustling, but they seemed to handle the crowd well. Just be patient!

We had a fantastic fish fry on Friday! Just a heads up, you need to place your order in person as they don't take phone orders. We tried both the fried squid and bluegill, and they were delicious. The light batter was beautifully crispy, and the fish was full of flavor. I will definitely return when I’m in the area again!
