Garcia's Cantina Cafe - Eagle River

The homemade tequila is fantastic, but unfortunately, a single shot is quite pricey. On the other hand, the house margarita is served in a tall glass, though it’s not the greatest. If you’re adventurous with the drink menu and request a large bowl glass, they’re happy to accommodate you. We’ve been here over a dozen times, and the service has generally been good. Taking everything into account, I would rate this place a 4 out of 5 for a Mexican restaurant in Alaska, considering the factors I’ve mentioned. Realistically speaking, we're as far from the southern border as you can get! So bring your friends, soak up the music, get out of your seat, and enjoy dancing the night away!

I had a wonderful experience! The food was delicious, and the service was outstanding! There was live music, and the band was amazing! I would highly recommend Garcia's as a cozy, feel-good family restaurant!

The quality of the food has declined over the past 18 months. It feels like a gamble whether you'll get your own order or someone else's. There's a lack of quality control. I recommend taking a break and trying a different restaurant.

I always have a wonderful meal and receive excellent service whenever I visit this restaurant. Their vegetable fajitas are amazing! The variety of veggies is excellent, with a great texture—not too crunchy and not too soft—and there’s a generous portion. The dish comes with warmed tortillas, rice, beans, guacamole, sour cream, and pico de gallo. I'm pretty sure the black beans are free of any animal products since they offer refried beans with their meat dishes, which typically contain lard. I’m not certain if the rice is cooked in chicken stock, but I plan to ask next time I'm there and will provide an update. As for the rice and beans, I find them just okay; they aren’t bad, but they tend to be a bit bland and dry for my taste. However, every entree I’ve tried has been fantastic, and if I had to choose, I’d prefer an outstanding entree over the sides. I’ve also included a photo of their shrimp tacos, which were delicious and came with plenty of shrimp. On my last visit, the service was incredibly fast, even on a busy Friday night. Their margaritas are fantastic as well!

This was my second time dining here, and I was thrilled to find that the food was fantastic once again. The music became quite loud when they switched to a live performance, which isn't surprising. At the start of our meal, the service was excellent, but as the meal progressed, we found ourselves having to catch the attention of the staff for refills, takeout boxes, and our check. When we were finally ready to leave, we ended up waiting about 15 minutes for them to bring it to us.
