We drove here to Eagle Bridge from Texas while our kids were on Christmas break. We stumbled upon Benson’s family restaurant after a trip to the grocery store. This place is a must stop! It’s a quiet place that has a real home town feel to it. The service was OUTSTANDING! During a time when good service is difficult to find, this was a breath of fresh air. We arrived for an early dinner, before 5 p.m. so there was only one young lady attending to 3 or 4 tables including ours. Since we were invited to sit anywhere, people kind of spread out. The restaurant isn’t huge but she was helping customers in all areas of it. All of this done with a smile, casually talking with guests, some new some regulars. She was doing all this while taking orders, checking on guests and greeting arriving guests. The menu had quit a few items to choose from, much more than I had anticipated. We decided on the fried mozzarella cheese sticks as an appetizer mainly because it’s the kids favorite, there were plenty more to choose from. My wife settled on a simple tomato soup (the special of the day) and a grilled cheese sandwich. The kids decided they both wanted spaghetti and meatballs and I decided to get the liver and onions. The appetizer arrived quickly and the kids quickly split the six between them. They both liked that they were different from what they usually get. I don’t know for sure by I believe they were made in house. My wife and I we very impressed when the main dishes arrived. The tomato soup was so delicious, again we believe homemade. The grilled cheese although so simple looked perfect. Not burnt at all, it literally looked perfect, served with chips and a pickle spear just like you would eat at home. The liver and onions were spot on too! Tender and delicious and served with spicy french fries, (my choice over mashed potato's) and cooked carrots. The kids spaghetti and meatballs, perfect. Served with what we believe was homemade sauce over angel hair pasta with 2 large meatballs and some garlic toast. The meatballs must have been delicious because the kids ate those first, rare for my daughter to do, both very happy. Make sure to save room for dessert because there is a whole whiteboard of them! We opted for slices of homemade pie, served warm with of course a scoop of vanilla ice cream. While my daughter opted for a peanut butter jubilee sundae. The apple pie my wife ordered was very good but didn’t hold a candle to the blueberry slice I had! This was truly the best blueberry pie I’ve ever had. The young lady that took our payment was just as pleasant as our server rounding out a wonderful family dinner. I hope if you are ever in the area and in need of a good meal, at a fair price, served with a smile, this is the place. Kudos to all involved with Benson’s.
