Uncle Julio's Durham

I arrived on a Tuesday evening and was informed that there would be a 15-20 minute wait for a table, but we could sit at the bar right away. We opted for the bar seating, but I was puzzled by the wait for a table since there were many available in both the bar and dining areas. The menu features typical Mexican dishes, and they served chips and salsa as soon as we were seated. We also ordered some blanco queso, which was decent. The meals were good, but not exceptional, and the beans were unlike any I had ever tasted before; not bad, just different. They offered a nice selection of margaritas, but for some reason, the availability of certain flavors was limited. The biggest shock came when the bill arrived. Although we tried a bit of everything, the total was surprisingly high for bar service, especially considering the limited menu options.

Great food, open space for big groups, good service. We celebrated husbands birthday there and had to open their unique chocolate Pinata filled with fruits and churros. I ordered it prior to dinner to enjoy it fully. We were 6 people, and were not able to finish it.Food: 5/5

First time here and I keep asking myself: why just now? Well, my only excuse is that I don't come to Durham often ?. Highly recommend this restaurant, food is yummy, service is great and the place itself is just amazing!Food: 5/5

The food (Jalisco fajitas) definitely had a different taste to it...but not in a bad way. The accompanying beans and rice were great. The standard issue Uncle Julio's salsa was bland. However, I've never had a blueberry margarita....and it was a nice surprise.Food: 4/5

In our group of eight, six of us received meals that were either lukewarm or at room temperature. It took a long time to get the server's attention to ask about this issue. Even though the restaurant didn't seem busy, we eventually had to search for the manager just to get our check. We will not be returning.
