We learned about this place from Vivian Howard’s "A Chef’s Life," and it has been on our must-visit list ever since. We shared the mackerel, potatoes, collard greens, and hush puppies. The collard greens were exceptional, and the hush puppies were delightful. The fish was perfectly cooked, and the potatoes were really tasty as well. We have no complaints whatsoever. The restaurant has a small parking lot and very clean restrooms. We can’t wait to return!
I had heard a lot about this restaurant and finally had the chance to visit. I ordered the flounder plate, which came with a vinegar-based coleslaw and homemade fries. The seasoning on the fish was nice, but unfortunately, it was a bit overcooked. The coleslaw had a hint of sweetness that I didn't really care for. There was a long line to place orders on a Saturday afternoon, although it moved quickly, which shows that people really enjoy the food here.
The collard greens were the best I’ve ever tasted—truly outstanding! While the food overall was good, the collards were the highlight. The flounder plate was delicious, and the portion size was reasonable for the price. The sliced potatoes could have been crispier; they were a bit too soft for my liking. The fried shrimp plate was alright, but I think I’ll opt for the grilled version next time. The location is nice, though it feels a bit small and cramped. I plan to return, but I’ll probably choose takeout. The sauces were tasty, and the slaw has a unique flavor that’s surprisingly appealing. Overall, it was a great dining experience!
Awesome as always! I got a chance to catch the braised oxtails with the salt fish and potato cakes! Made me and my tongue dance! Flavors all through both items! Might not look like much but it definitely was! I hope Chef Ricky brings that back again!
By far the best seafood I've tasted in NC. No wonder Chef Moore is a James Beard Award Winner. First, you have to try the hush honeys. They are so good and a great start to what will be a delicious meal. Then, you can't go wrong with any fish on the menu because it's fresh, never frozen. I always get it blackened so you can taste the freshness. Do yourself a favor and check this place out the next time you are in Durham.
