I've been in Durham, North Carolina, for the last 30 years, and a supporter of this restaurant for the past ten. Anyone who visits will understand its charm. The biblical verses are everywhere, adding to the atmosphere. This place is a favorite stop on any genuine tour of the area. The dishes here are amazing, and it feels just like home. Everything seems right with the world when you're here.

We had fish, turkey wings, and oxtail! This was the last meal I had before they closed on 10/24/21, and everything was delicious. The sides included greens, cauliflower, potato salad, rice, fried okra, and hush puppies. Every time I leave, I plan to come back!

I've been to JC's twice in the eight years I've lived in Durham, and I wish I could have gone more. If you're looking for a place that captures the essence of Southern comfort food without any pretensions, this is it. It's true that every chef puts their own spin on dishes, and they may not taste exactly like what your mom or grandmother made, but that's okay—it's still incredibly delicious. The turquoise wings are light and flavorful, and the green cauliflower was also very good.
