I think they did a great job seating, taking orders, bartending, and cleaning tables. I was amazed how they didn?t get overwhelmed. Now about the food, I live 1 hr and 30 mins away so have to be good for me to want to drive that far again for it. I ordered three chicken wings with waffle, sassy grits, and a sunset mimosa. The chicken was okay and the waffle wasn?t good. The waffle was cold.I had better chicken and better waffles before. The drink was good and the shrimp grits were good until I got home. When I got home and finally ate the rest of my grits it had plastic in it.
If you ever tasted the famous Roscoe Chicken Waffles out in Los Angeles, Dames put Roscoe to shame! Dames is quickly becoming a staple of Southern Crusine with their Chicken Waffles. Everything on the menu is simply amazing. The staff is always attentive and courteous. The only con is sometimes you may wait longer, but trust me once you have Dames you will rave about how good they are!
Positives: The front of the house staff were great and seemed poised to handle an influx of guests. Most of the food was good. I definitely recommend the shrimp and grits. Cons: Our waitress lacked the ability to move with any sense of urgency. We had a party of 8. I gathered all of the orders beforehand to assist with ease of placing the order. Reviewed it with waitress x2?and we still ended up not getting all of our items. Kitchen was definitely struggling. One person ended up not getting their meal until the rest of us finished our meals. All in all, I would definitely try again but likely at a less busy time.
As soon as I touched down in Durham, I went straight to Dame's Chicken an Waffles!! Lete tell you!!!!! THE BEST SHRIMP GRITS I EVER had!!!! You MUST check these guys out!! We got some guidance from our server. He explained that you can mix and match anything and that made my decision harder. I ordered the orange chicken and swapped things around. I wanted a classic chicken cutlet (excellent) was advised to get the vegan waffle (very dense- tastes fine but was not light and fluffy, it had the texture of under cooked waffles- not what I?m used to) I got the blueberry schmere and the hot sauce very similar to Mae ploy. He got a side of scrambled eggs and cheese grits. I loved the regular waffle and chicken cutlet.
