After indulging in the usual holiday feasts, I was craving a tasty burger but not from McDonald's or Burger King. I decided to try out Yankee Star Coalisland instead. This cozy American grill house is family-run and offers a great variety of diner food. The burgers were delicious, piled high with fries on the side. They offer plenty of combo options or the ability to design your own. They also have a kids menu and everything is reasonably priced for an American diner. In the end, our appetites were definitely satisfied. I highly recommend giving it a try, but make sure to book in advance as it is a popular spot.
I have been to this restaurant a few times in the last few years, but have never received the chicken wings I ordered as a starter. The main course was served cold tonight and when I asked the waiter why, he didn't know and had to check with the kitchen. After a few minutes, our dishes were returned to us on new plates with chips served separately, most likely reheated in the microwave. The steak we ordered was advertised as tender, but it was tough to chew. The bread was soggy from the raw mushrooms. To top it off, I was told at the checkout that they couldn't accept card payment because their machine was broken, forcing me to find an ATM. When I suggested they put up a sign about it, I was told that they had done so before but customers didn't read it. The waitresses should have informed us about this when we placed our orders. Despite these issues, the restaurant was nicely decorated.
We had a specially prepared Starter Platter for our table of ten. This was thoroughly enjoyed by all; it proved to be a hit with some who didn 't want too filling an individual starter . Everyone enjoyed their main course although there was around a ten minute gap from the first person to be served to the last one. Only one waitress and perhaps not enough help in the kitchen. However, everyone enjoyed their meal. Desserts were delicious and all were served promptly. Decor as before but perhaps getting a little tired . Seating was very comfortable if a little crushed for ten people. However I was very surprised to find that the gents ' toilet bowl had no seat and the hand drying paper dispenser was empty. The toilet area was clean but a little cramped; only one gents ' toilet for a fairly large restaurant. However there was no queue, as the restaurant wasn 't very busy. The waitress was friendly and helpful if a little overworked . We had a very successful 21st Birthday Party and we wouldn 't have chosen anywhere else. We will come again. (Hopefully the gents ' toilet will have been repaired).
Had lunch here today, what a great little place with with friendly staff. The burgers were great, and plenty of food. Try the Arizona burger, with pulled pork and salt n chilli chicken.
